Before it hits theaters on June 23, take a trip with Collider to Wes Andersondesert landscape in pastel colors for early display asteroid city. We’ve partnered with Focus Features to give Los Angeles and New Yorkers the opportunity to experience this world-changing phenomenon before the movie hits wide release, and we’ve got some special surprises in store for Los Angeles visitors.
From the author’s intent of the screenwriter and director of such cult films as Fantastic Mr Fox, Royal TenebaumsAnd full moon kingdom, Anderson takes viewers back to his whimsical world in a fictional desert city called Asteroid City. The romantic drama is set in the mid-fifties during a meeting where students and their families will gather from all over the country to join the junior stargazers/space cadets. Like his MO, this outstanding cast is full of talent, starring Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton, and more. From parents to attendees to sky-gazing students, Asteroid City offers friendly competitions and activities, but so far the convention’s festivities are cut short by “world-changing events.”
For New York readers, the screening will take place on Wednesday, June 14 at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater at 8:00 pm.
For those of you who live in Los Angeles, an early screening will take place on Saturday, June 17 at 2:00 pm at the Landmark Sunset Theatre. Focus Features will also provide a free T-shirt and a concession item. Also, before or after the movie, you can check out asteroid city popup windows. If you would like to visit the pre-view pop-up, please arrive at least 30 minutes before.
