When will filming of season 6 of The Crown start?
Filming for Crown The sixth season began in September 2022. However, production was delayed several times, first on 8 September due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and then again, a week later, when it was put on hold for a day due to the late Queen’s funeral. Despite delays, filming finally wrapped on April 21, 2023, and the season is currently in post-production. That’s what Imelda Stauntonwho plays the queen in the final season, told Collider about how the death of the monarch affected the production:
Well, to be honest, we started on Wednesday and the queen died on Thursday, so it’s obviously colored by those events. Nothing has changed in the series, and I wouldn’t tell you about it. I don’t care how many superheroes you have behind you, you can’t handle it. It really affected all of us. I think that everyone was very saddened and thrown off course, and yet everyone knew to continue what we are doing and doing. It’s weird to talk about something that you’re still doing because I’ve never done a TV show. Maybe for other people doing long series you do it all the time, but this is a first for me. I’ll be very happy when that happens and we can just get back to work.
In another interview with Collider Dominic West, who plays Charles (the current real-life monarch of England) in recent seasons, also spoke about how working on a season comes with “a huge responsibility,” especially after the Queen’s death. Here’s what he said:
Yeah, well, it’s extraordinary because, of course, it’s taking place in a time after the Queen’s death, where I think The Crown has attracted more criticism than it probably did before. It is also the busiest season in many ways. It also covers the time that most people remember from the beginning of the show. So it’s a very exciting and challenging time to work on this stuff because you’re aware of the responsibility. These people are still alive, and this is a huge responsibility.
