Ted Lasso may have come to an emotional end as the hit Apple TV+ garnered several Emmys along the way and its star Jason Sudeikis pondered how a series about an unorthodox American coach who finds himself in charge of an elite English football team became a worldwide hit.
It’s a concept that was only meant to work as a contrived situation comedy, and that’s exactly where it started before turning into something more melancholy and brooding, touching on darker themes like anxiety, suicide, and homophobia. But Lasso, this man, never gave up on anyone and always kept hope — something that worried people when the show first aired in 2020, during the pandemic.
Sudeikis in an interview fly up the wall The podcast aired on the day the final episode aired. Ted Lassowas asked when he found out that the show was indeed a huge success. Ironically, this was when fans started approaching him after the lockdown ended in England, but the actor admits they knew ahead of time, thanks to Apple’s viewership figures, that they had a big winner on their hands.
When Jason Sudeikis found out Ted Lasso Was it a hit?
“Even the Emmy nominations didn’t help. The show aired during quarantine so we didn’t know what impact it was having. drove past the house while I was taking out the garbage and shouted: “Hey, I love the show!” It was like that during SNL on a Sunday and people would say what a great show it was and you think then people actually watch the show.
From a business standpoint, we knew it was a big deal because we launched our writers room for Season 2 and it premiered on Friday, and on Monday Apple executives called and asked us to do Season 2. season, can you add two more episodes? And then, two weeks later, we’d like to pick you up for a third season. But we were filming in London during the lockdown, so we were wondering if the show was only successful in showbiz? By the time we got into Season 3, in 2022, we were taking the kids to football games and the fans were coming up and calling us coaches, and they heard that Brad Pitt, of course, loved it too.”
