In honor of the release of the upcoming remake, Walt Disney Studios has unveiled an all-new short film showcasing a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s music, including a new original song.

The short begins with new footage from the film, as well as an extended look at the “Kiss the Girl” episode, which recreates the charm of the original cartoon classic, while also teasing with additional songs such as “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Part of Your Life”. The Little Mermaid made a lot of noise at the box office

While Disney’s recent trend of remaking their animated classics into live action has often been criticized for their unimaginative nature, their box office momentum cannot be denied as nostalgia plays a huge role in drawing viewers in. Mermaid continues to dominate the box office, with early Deadline tracking suggesting the film could open with $110 million domestically. Family movies are doing incredibly well at the box office, with the movie slated for an early summer release. Mermaid may show off some strong sea legs in the coming weeks as families head out to the theaters. Whether the film will resonate remains to be seen, but the film is expected to premiere next week and audiences will soon be plunged back into nostalgia when Mermaid splashes in theaters on Memorial Day weekend.
