The universal experience of loving music translates exceptionally well to the screen. From musicals to mockumentaries, there is something for everyone. Yes, there is even something for diehard Muppet fans.
9 ‘The Muppets Mayhem’ (2023)

Dr. Teeth, Janice, Animal, Floyd, Zoot and Sponges, who have been playing together for decades but never made an album, take on the recording industry and try to make a real album together. Along with junior A&R executive Nora (Lilly Singh), The Muppet Show the stars soon discover that the modern music world is just as chaotic as life with their puppet friends.
The series immerses familiar characters in the world of contemporary music and, true to the Muppet tradition, the band interact with a wide variety of real-world stars on their adventures. Lil Nas X, Billy Corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins”,Weird Al Yankovic and many more appear as guests everywhere. There’s even an unexpected run-in with the director of the infamous puppet movie, which brings a welcome poignancy to the electric experience.
8 “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” (2010)
Based on the graphic novel series, Edgar WrightX Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is an iconic classic action comedy with a killer soundtrack. Scott (Michael Cera) is the bassist for the badass garage band Sex Bob-Omb. When he falls in love with delivery girl Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Scott soon discovers he must defeat Ramona’s seven evil exes in order to win her heart.
Scott is the protagonist of the story, but the other members of Sex Bob-Omb are Kim Pine (Alison Pill), Young Nile (Johnny Stevens) and Stephen Stills (Mark Webber) is a very interesting supporting cast. Scott and Ramona’s mutual ex Envy Adams (Brie Larson), also has his own band, The Clash at Demonhead. There’s also a climactic band fight scene between Sex Bob-Omb and two of Ramona’s exes, which goes really hard!
7 “Daisy Jones and the Six” (2023)
Based Taylor Jenkins Reidamazon romance Daisy Jones and the Six is a fictional story about the rise and fall of the titled Fleetwood Mac-esk group. Daisy Jones (English)Riley Keough) an ambitious singer-songwriter trying to break into the business; Billy DunnSam Claflin) and his brothers are a struggling rock band trying to make it big. After a producer invites them to collaborate, the results become nothing short of a phenomenon…until the band suddenly announces their departure at the height of their fame.
The series consists of interviews and archival footage of the band mixed in between their stories. The original songs reflect the 1970s Los Angeles music scene, and the behind-the-scenes drama and live footage feel surprisingly authentic. Mixing behind-the-scenes intrigues and will they/won’t they be romantics, Daisy Jones this is a love letter to a great decade of music.
6 ‘Metalpocalypse’ (2006-2013)
Adult Swim animated comedy series metalocalypse follows the truly explosive adventures of metal band Dethklok. In the world of the show, the group has a huge impact, causing havoc wherever they appear, with little consequence for their violent antics. Dethklok has the Tribunal, an Illuminati-style organization on their heels, trying to stop them from using their influence on their oblivious, adoring fans.
This cult classic is a dark and whimsical riff on heavy metal fan culture. With his morbid humor and devilishly catchy songs, he’s been an Adult Swim staple for years. There is even a real Dethklok band that traveled to promote the show with the show’s creator. Brendon Small on vocals and guitar!
5 “It’s a spinal tap” (1984)
Rob ReinerX This is a spinal tap. is one of the funniest mockumentary films and one of the best musical films. The mostly impromptu film is about a famous British metal band trying to stay relevant in the emerging music world. Accompanied by documentary filmmaker (Reiner), Spinal Tap embark on a tour of the United States as it descends into chaos… Stonehenge will never be the same again.
Comedy - and volume - hits 11 in this classic film that shows just how silly and ridiculous the rock lifestyle can be. Main cast (Christopher Guest, Michael McKean And Harry Shearer) legends, and the supporting cast (including Fran Drescher as an executive director) is just as difficult. This is a spinal tap. paved the way for more music industry comedies such as Go Hard: The Legend of Dewey Cox.
4 “Almost Famous” (2000)
director Cameron Crowe based on his original classical Almost Famous on my own experience as a rock band and music journalist. 15 year old WilliamPatrick Fugit) gets a dream job from Rolling Stone magazine to accompany his favorite band Stillwater on tour. During his travels, he meets the band’s guitarist Russell (Billy Crudup) and “band-aid” Penny Lane fan (Keith Hudson,), and his journey is a unique coming-of-age story.
Almost Famous - the quintessential musical film, the soundtrack to which belongs to the classics of rock, as well as the original music of Stillwater, written for the film. The iconic “Tiny Dancer” scene on the tour bus alone is worth watching the movie. Crowe won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, adding to the pedigree of this iconic film.
3 “Hedwig and the Evil Inch” (2001)
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a queer rock musical that transcends gender and genre. Hedwig (John Cameron Mitchell) is an “internationally ignored song stylist” who moved from Berlin to Junction City, Kansas after a botched sex change operation. Along with her band The Angry Inch, she tells her story of finding her platonic other half and how her protégé, Tommy Gnosis,Michael Pitt) stole her heart and her music.
Based on the Broadway production, Mitchell’s adaptation of the musical he co-wrote. Stephen Trask a rare film equal to its stage counterpart. Hedwig’s relationship with her bandmates, including second-in-command Yitzhak (Miriam Shore,) is as integral to the story as her relationship with Tommy. The songs Hedwig performs with Angry Inch are some of the greatest rock songs ever written, musical or otherwise.
2 “Singing Street” (2016)
Form a group at school with a group of misfits to impress a girl? That’s exactly what ConorFerdia Walsh-Pylo) courting the mysterious Rafina (Lucy Boynton) V Sing Street, John CarneyIrish rock coming-of-age romance. Conor’s home life is tough and adjusting to a new school and a bully isn’t easy, but forming a band with new friends proves to be a great way out.
Sing Street perfectly conveys the joy of being a teenager in a group. New wave songs (both original songs and existing hits) and music video-inspired musical numbers such as “Drive It Like You Stole It” are full of jubilation. It’s a fresh, fun, nostalgic story about young people making brilliant music together.
1 “Josie and the Kitties” (2001)
Based on the Archie comic series. Josie and the kitties it’s a satire of the music industry that only gets smarter with age. Josie (Rachael Leigh Cook) and her bandmates Val (Rosario Dawson) and Melody (Tara Reid) sign a recording deal with scheming MegaRecords spokesman Wyatt Frame (Alan Cumming) and his boss Fiona (Parker Posey) and promise fame and fortune. The girls soon find out that their music is being used as a tool to spread subliminal consumer messages in order to control the minds of their fans!
This now cult classic has received major re-evaluation from critics and fans in the years since it exploded at the box office and is now considered a gem ahead of its time. Songs Adam Schlesinger these are masterpieces of pop music for radio. The movie’s subliminal messages aren’t wrong: “Josie and the kitties it’s the best movie.”
