Although the last season of HBO succession sees Roy’s siblings more isolated than ever, this hasn’t always been the case, especially when it comes to Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong). From the very beginning of the first season, viewers got to know his old high school friend and cocaine buddy Stewie Hosseini (Arian Moayed). Although the two have been involved in their share of shady dealings and betrayals over the past few years, they are still close when it counts. However, viewers still don’t know much about who Stewie is other than his relationship with Waystar Royco.
In an interview with Collider’s one-on-one Arezu Amin for your new movie You hurt my feelingsMoayed was asked if he came up with his own backstory for Stewie. He explained that while some aspects were discussed backstage, he didn’t necessarily need to reflect that on the show, saying:
“It was all just general. I mean Jessie [Armstrong] and I had a conversation about him being Iranian and when he arrived and all that. But after that conversation, I was very honest, I said: “Whatever we decide here, it does not need to be talked about on the show.” I think part of what I was really hoping for was that we could leave him to Stewie Hosseini and people would just accept him for who he is. It turns out to be Iranian, and at this level. I think it doesn’t define him, which was very important to me.”
Even though most of Stewie’s backstory was very loosely defined, that doesn’t mean other off-screen elements didn’t come into play when he joined the series. Moayed credits his longtime friendship with Strong and other actors as creating a safe environment, saying “I’ve known Jeremy since he was 19 or I was 19 and he was 20 or so and a lot of those actors are in into the theater community, so I saw them everywhere and we hung out and stuff. it was done pretty quickly because of how we all knew each other.”
What’s next for Aryan Moayed?
At this point, we don’t know if Stewie will show up again sooner. succession coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean Moayed isn’t a busy man. He is currently filming a production Dollhouse across from Broadway Jessica Chastainand the next time it can be seen on the screen in Nicole HolofcenerX You hurt my feelings. Also starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tobias Menzies, And Michaela Watkinsthe film explores the idea of honesty in relationships and white lies sometimes needed to keep the creative spirit alive.
