[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4]
When we start to bloat to check Ballerinafirst spin-off movie John Wick franchise, we can’t help but wonder how Ana De Armas“Rooney will fit into this universe. At this point, we know that the main character will avenge the death of her parents and that she will cross paths with other characters in the franchise. In an interview with Collider John Wick director Erica Lee it is revealed to what extent these characters will be featured and what roles they will play in Rooney’s story.
We also already knew that Ballerina happens between John Wick 3: Chapter 3 - Parabellum And John Wick: Chapter 4but after watching the fourth part, you are 100% sure of the chronology, since the two main characters die in John Wick 4. Starring Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane like Winston, and deceased Lance Reddick like Charon, it’s easy to assume that Rooney will sign up for The Continental, but Lee confirmed to our editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub that the actors returned only for cameos:
“Ian has something else and John Wick is an extended cameo. Shot for about a week. Lance shot for a day. In a sense, these were also the last additions. How to bring the worlds together a little more to achieve more brand continuity? Because obviously she is a ballerina at the Russian Gypsy School, so she had Angelica. [Huston] as the Director has always been an organic entry and she has always registered with Continental. But then it was funny that Ian and Lance showed up. I didn’t know if Keanu was going to be in the movie. I think we’ve always hoped so. Then there was a timeline issue because we were still working on John Wick 4 and it was like he was dead? Isn’t it true? He died? Yeah, let’s do it, so it makes sense chronologically and gives us a minute to sort things out.”
