The penultimate episode of the series, “When We’re in Need”, previously held the record for most viewed series prior to the finale, with 8.1 million viewers. Last of us was an immediate hit, with its January premiere attracting 4.7 million viewers, and numbers, as highlighted earlier, continued to rise throughout the season. Compared to the finale, the new series increased by 75% compared to the premiere.
