Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania it’s a movie that juggles a lot of balls. Not only does it bring the size-shifting hero movie trilogy to a close, but it also kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduces a new threat in the form of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). Scott Lang (English)Paul Rudd) encounters a time-traveling tyrant when he and his family, including teenage daughter Cassie (Katherine Newton) — are drawn into the Quantum World. The latest trailer promises to unravel the mysteries of the Quantum Realm and secure Kang as a pretty formidable force.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania will also introduce a number of new characters to the MCU, most notably MODOK (who previously headlined his own short-lived animated series on Hulu). And, as is the case with every new installment in the MCU, there are a number of comics that have had a big impact on the film. Here are just a few comics to watch before you pre-order tickets for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania.
‘Ant-Man’ Al Ewing and Tom Reilly
Ant-Man films are often referred to as “palette cleaners” in the MCU due to their relatively low stakes (although Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania hopes to change that). But one of the main themes is legacy - as in the Ant-Man mantle that Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) goes to Lang and in terms of the family. And it is this concept that underlies the Ant-Man series of Al Ewing And Tom Reilly. The four-issue series brings together everyone who has ever worn the mantle of Ant-Man - Pym, Lang, and slacker Eric O’Grady. It builds on Ewing’s strengths by blending classic superhero action with great sci-fi themes. And Reilly’s work changes to reflect the era of each Ant-Man; the first issue begins as a tribute to the Marvel of the 60s era, and the last issue is a cutting-edge “narrative experience”.
“The Amazing Ant-Man” by Nick Spencer
Shortly after the release of the first Ant-Man movie, new Ant-Man series of Nick Spencer And Ramon Rosanas debuted. In an attempt to get his life back on track, Scott Lang moves to Miami and starts a new cybersecurity business. But in true Ant-Man style, things go awry. His employees include the former villains Grizzly and the Mechanic Blacksmith, and among his competitors is the businesslike but ruthless broker Power Broker. Spencer’s witty screenplays and Rosanas’ fine art make for a delightful read and reinforce The Amazing Ant-Man as one of the most underrated Marvel games.
“Kahn the Conqueror: I’m the only one left to win”
Throughout the history of Marvel Comics, Kang the Conqueror has had many aliases and has fought many foes. Recent Miniseries Kang the Conqueror: It remains only to defeat me tries to weave all these threads into a single narrative - and this is possible thanks to the work of writers Jackson Lanzing And Colleen Kelly as well as an artist Carlos Magno. The origin of Kang’s desire to win is finally revealed, as well as what he will go to in order to achieve this goal. And once you’ve finished reading the book, you’ll be in awe of both the sheer scope and scope of Magno’s artwork, and how Lanzing and Kelly managed to imbue Kang with some humanity (while retaining his ferocity).
“Avengers: Mission to the Microverse”
During Ant-Man movies, the disappearance of Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) is central to the plot. Hank banned Hope’s daughterEvangeline Lilly) from using Pym Particles, fearing that she might suffer the same fate as her mother. It was then revealed that Janet had actually survived the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Now quantum mania seeks to fully explore what Janet went through in the Quantum Realm, while drawing on more recent Avengers story.
During Secret Invasion story line Brian Michael Bendis And Leinil Francis YuJanet apparently sacrificed herself to stop the Skrull Empire from activating the doomsday device. And yet she did not die; it has just shrunk to the point where it has entered the Microverse, a subatomic universe hidden within our own. “Mission to the Microverse” shows the Avengers traveling to rescue her and become involved in the effort to free her. This story marks the end of Bendis’ tenure on the main Avengers title and serves as a kind of flyleaf. In his first story arc Avengers: Disassembled, he tore the Avengers apart. In this latest story, they team up to save one of them, who is also a founding member of the team!
“Young Avengers Vol. 1: Partners
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania will see Cassie Lang follow in her father’s footsteps and don the Stinger costume in the Quantum Realm. This continues the trend of MCU projects introducing characters who would become members of the Young Avengers, and the teenage superteam’s first storyline could provide fertile ground for their eventual introduction.
First volume Young Avengers from Allan Heinberg And Jim Cheng finds a new team of heroes operating in the absence of the Avengers. It is soon revealed that their leader Iron Lad is on the run from Kang the Conqueror, but Kang’s rampage has an ulterior motive. Heinberg has created many amazing characters, including former and future Hawkeye Kate Bishop, and Cheng’s dynamic artwork is a delight to the eye. Whether you’re a longtime comic book fan or a newcomer, Young Avengers it’s the perfect name to start with.
