2022 has been a fantastic year for films, and there are quite a few gems in the action genre that should become modern cult classics. From Top Shooter: Maverick to All Everywhere All At Onceit was an incredible time for adrenaline-filled thrills.
However, it was a great year not only for action movies, but for action movies as well. From heroes with hearts of gold to nuanced and morally gray anti-heroes to layered villains with complex motives, audiences saw plenty of adorable characters with as much personality as fun fighting abilities.
10/10 Jake Sully - Avatar: The Way of the Water
Avatar The films need no introduction. Especially not water pathwhat’s up with Avatar the sequel hits box office records like they’re nothing. The protagonist of the series, Jake Sully, joined the Na’vi race after helping save them from greedy human colonizers.
While many people referred to Sally in the first film as a somewhat bland protagonist, criticism fell silent with the sequel. His character still has a long way to go in the sequels, but now he’s conflicted and full of personality. He is a dedicated family man, willing to do anything to protect his loved ones, and his journey to gaining courage and learning to stand up for his people is one of the best parts of life. water path.
9/10 Raju and Bheem - “RRR”
These unlikely partners go so hand in hand that it would be a crime if they were separate entries. Raju and Bheem, the protagonists of an epic action movie in the Telegu language. RRRcarry the entire movie on your shoulders effortlessly.
The characters Raju and Bhima are based on two real Indian revolutionaries. RRR far from your typical historical piece. Packed with action and blending multiple genres, the film explores the incredibly funny bond between these two foes-turned-friends whose dynamic makes them one of the most interesting movie duos of 2022.
8/10 Naru - “Prey”
Mining received fans Predator the franchise by storm when it was released in the summer. He took the series back to its roots, this time following a seasoned Comanche warrior fighting to protect his village from the terrifying Predator.
In addition to gripping suspense and visually striking action scenes, Mining took an unconventional approach to growing up that suited her perfectly. Naru is the perfect protagonist Predator movie: An absolute badass who is ridiculously fun to watch in action. On top of that (and despite those who claim she looks a bit like a Mary Sue), she has interesting flaws and flaws that she must overcome in order to defeat the villain.
7/10 Namor - “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
Even after so many years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe still faces the challenge of creating memorable villains. However, Namor Black Panther: Wakanda Forever undoubtedly one of the best Phase 4 antagonists.
fantastic Tenoch Huerta and a lovingly written script make Namor one of the franchise’s most colorful and likable characters, often more of an anti-hero than a true villain. From a movie full of great elements, this character is definitely one of the standouts.
6/10 Amlet - “Northern”
Author Robert Eggers one of the most exciting new voices in modern cinema, and his violent Viking epic Northerner just proves it. In it, a young exiled prince must return home to save his mother and avenge his father’s murder.
Eggers’ historical drama is as brutal, bloody, and unapologetic in its brutality as an action movie can be. The entire cast of characters is superb, led by the charming Prince Amlet. Played with amazing emotional complexity Alexander SkarsgardAmleth is a grieving boy in the body of a vicious killing machine, hiding many emotions and layers under his screams and terrifying expressions.
5/10 Naniska - “The Woman King”
It’s impossible for Viola Davis show a performance that is less than emotionally gripping, and she proved it in 2022 with woman kingabout a powerful leader training an all-female warrior squad to face any outside threat that might come their way.
It’s not just Davis’ performance that is stunning, however. Her character, Naniska, is definitely not the typical, hard-edged stoic she might seem at the start of the film. It is revealed that she hides deep pain and sadness deep within herself and uses this to enhance her leadership and physical strength, as well as empower her fellow warriors.
4/10 Puss in Boots - “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”
Nobody expected a decent but not great sequel Puss in Boots to be as great as he has become. Last wishwhere the protagonist goes in search of a wish-fulfilling star, is a life-affirming masterpiece about finding joy in relationships and comfort in earthly life.
The Cat himself has always been a very funny character in shrek franchise, but Last wish makes him one of DreamWorks Animation’s best protagonists, placing him in a situation never seen before in any of the studio’s films. His existential angst and possible overcoming obstacles in his path make him a surprisingly addictive hero to keep an eye on.
3/10 Pete “Maverick” Mitchell - Top Gun: Maverick
There have been some shockingly great sequels to the rather lackluster first film in 2022. Top Shooter: Maverick surprised viewers by being a gripping, emotional, delightful meta-study of an aging Pete Mitchell forced back into the TOP GUN program.
Maverick makes the protagonist confront the wounds of his past, be the strong leader that the young people of TOP GUN need, and become the person he was always meant to be. It’s a phenomenal character arc made even more powerful by the way the film subtly explores the role of an old-school action star in today’s cinematic climate. What more can you ask for from an action hero?
2/10 Bruce Wayne - “Batman”
Depictions of Batman in movies tend to be pretty random. Sometimes you get deep exploration of a character’s psyche, as in Phantasm Maskwhile other times you get bat nipples and bat credit cards like in Batman and Robin. Fortunately, Matt Reeves and Robert PattisonThe version of the character is definitely one of the best.
Throughout Batman, fans will see a young Bruce Wayne who still hasn’t learned how to channel his rage. This is a version of the character unlike anything the silver screen has ever seen, consistently proving to fans that Reeves and company have a lot to say about the Batman mythos.
1/10 Evelyn and Waymond Wang - “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once”
The two protagonists of a hilarious, gripping, tear-jerking existentialist masterpiece. All Everywhere All At Once come in a set. Michelle Yeoh and Ke Hai QuanPossibly the best performance of their career, they play the aging married couple Evelyn and Waymond Wang, and they are both definitely the best action characters of 2022.
There is nothing not to like about these characters and their dynamics. Their growing love connection, how they make each other better, and how they manage to save the universe together thanks to the unique powers of each, are all a huge part of what makes Everything is everywhere a strong contender for last year’s best film.
