There has never been a better or more lucrative time for sequels in the film industry. Most likely, if the film is successful, there will be another one. And if that one is successful, then maybe the other. Sequels and movie franchises seem to be enjoying continued popularity, consistently generating big box office receipts and engaging audiences.
It became crystal clear in 2022 when Top Shooter: Maverick and Avatar: Path of Water become the biggest hits of the year. Looks like 2023 will be no exception with many long-awaited sequels coming out. From sci-fi epics, superhero escapes, nostalgic comebacks and extravagant action movies, this year is going to be a busy one for fans of these franchises.
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” - June 30, 2023
For the first time since 2008 kingdom of the crystal skullone of the most iconic movie characters will return in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Doom. For what is rumored to be the last cheer Harrison Ford take his famous hat and whip it again.
The film is said to be set against the backdrop of the space race and will once again feature villainous Nazis. With the director James Mangold at the helm and Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen joining the cast, it’s an adventure that moviegoers are looking forward to.
Dune: Part Two - November 3, 2023
Denis VilleneuveX Dune is one of the most visually and technically impressive sci-fi films of the 21st century right now, and the director is back for its mega-sequel. Timotuhe Chalamet will reprise his role as Paul Atreides, who seeks revenge after a plot was made against his family.
Zendaya will have a much bigger role in the sequel with two more of Hollywood’s hottest young actors, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh, joining her and Chalamet. It is said to be even bigger in scale than its predecessor and will certainly be the big screen of the year.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3′ - May 5, 2023
Before James Gunn takes over the reins of the DC Universe, he’s preparing one last performance for the gang of misfits who helped rocket Gunn’s career to blockbuster heights. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last outing for Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Buitista), Groot (VIN diesel) and more.
The Guardians have been MCU favorites since their debut in 2014 thanks to their heart and humor. It’s going to be a bitter goodbye, and from the trailer it looks like it’s going to be quite an emotional ride, especially for everyone’s favorite Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper). There will definitely be tears of sadness and joy.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania - February 17, 2023
2023 promises to be an important year for Marvel. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania being one of their most hotly anticipated titles. Paul Rudd returns as Scott Lang along with Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer and recently abandoned Katherine Newton.
Along with the excitement of the possibilities that the Quantum Realm will bring, viewers will also see Jonathan Majors in action as Kang the Conqueror, the MCU’s next big villain. We can finally get a sense of its long-term impact on the universe and how it fits into the bigger picture.
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods - March 17, 2023
Shazam! became one of the biggest surprise hits of 2019 with a winning combination of action, humor, soulfulness, and overarching themes of family and belonging. In 2023 Zachary Levy finally returns to reprise his role in the highly anticipated sequel Shazam! Fury of the gods.
In the film, Billy Batson, also known as Shazam, will fight Hespera and Calypso, the villainous Greek gods played by Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu. Billy’s super siblings will also be back, so we hope the movie is as much of a surprise as its predecessor.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - June 2, 2023
When Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released in 2018, and audiences and critics alike were blown away by its artistically rich animation style and emotionally gripping storyline. It has since established itself as one of the best animated films of all time.
Its continuation Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has a lot to match but promises to bring more stunning visuals and a new adventure for protagonist Miles Morales (Shameik Moore). Get ready for multiverse adventures and a plethora of new Spider-Man options, including Spider-Woman (Issa Ray) and Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya).
“Credo III” - March 3, 2023
Breathing new life into a multi-year franchise is never an easy task, but Credo and its sequel were able to do just that for rocky row. In 2023 Michael B. Jordan returns to reprise his role as Adonis, son of heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), in Creed III.
The film marks the actor’s directorial debut as he enters the ring face to face with childhood friend played by Jonathan Majors. It will also be the first in the series not to feature Sylvester Stallone like Rocky, but stays in good hands with Jordan. Until there is an epic practice montage at some point.
Super Mike’s Last Dance - February 10, 2023
With the release of the original Magic Mike in 2012 and its sequel in 2015, hilarious Channing Tatum established himself as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and heartthrobs. Now Tatum will undress for the last time in Magic Mike’s last dancecompleting the trilogy.
In Magical, Mike Lane returns to the stage after taking a break from a business deal that left him broke. original director Steven Soderbergh returns to direct, in addition to Salma Hayek join the cast. Since most of the film is set in London, this will be the last show that viewers will remember.
John Wick: Chapter 4 - March 24, 2023
In this case, there is no murder of the Boogeyman or Baba Yaga as Keanu Reeves returns in his lead role in John Wick: Chapter 4. After three hugely successful and action-packed adventures, John is back to kick more asses, take on more names, and stab a few more people in the eye with a pencil—potentially.
The film is going global as the price of John’s head continues to rise and it will take viewers to New York, Japan, Berlin and beyond. The legendary martial arts star has joined the cast. Donnie Yenand Bill Skarsgerd in another villainous role. Viewers clearly can’t get enough of Mr. Wick.
“Mission: Impossible - The Wage of Death Part One” - July 14, 2023
2022 has been an important year for Tom Cruise thanks to the monumental success of the highly anticipated sequel. Top Shooter: Maverickand 2023 promises to be just as big for the star, with Mission: Impossible - Paying for Death, Part One is the seventh film in a long-running series in theaters.
Cruz reprises his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt alongside fan favorites such as Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson. New faces joining the cast also include Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff. However, viewers may be most eager to see what kind of deadly stunts Cruz pulls off this time around.
