Since Black Adam released in theaters two months ago, its star Dwayne Johnson was on a public relations offensive regarding the stunning twist at the end of the film. After the film ended, with Black Adam settling into his new role as Kandak’s protector, viewers were shocked to see Henry Cavill come out of the smoke in the dark to fight Black Adam in his role as Clark Kent/Superman - last seen in Justice League.

Johnson publicly stated that he insisted on Cavill’s return, but received resounding “no” answers and fierce resistance, and with typical boastfulness, he declared that he refused to take “no” for an answer - his personal attitude towards Cavill. (his business partner and manager Dani Garcia is also Cavill’s manager) meant the deal was easy to close.

Cavill himself announced his return as The Last Son of Krypton on Instagram a couple of days after the film’s release, but it was only Johnson who spoke. “I feel like this serves not only Black Adam, but the entire DC Universe,” Johnson said. “More importantly, it’s about the fans. And that’s what you want your lead foot to be. So, yeah, phone calls, meetings… But, man, it’s been years, man. Six years to do it. I’m going to say it again, for six years we kept talking about it and they kept saying no. Now that leadership is gone and we are ushering in a new era in the DC Universe.”

Henry Cavill as Black Suit Superman in Zack Snyder's Justice League.

The old manual he’s talking about is Walter Hamada. Hamada worked at Warner Bros. for more than 15 years and four years he was the president of DC Films. He has been in charge of DC since 2018 and in January 2021 renewed his contract for two years, which was cut short before arriving. James Gunn as well as Peter Safran as co-directors of DC Studios.

However, in a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that Johnson may not be entirely right about Hamada. The report says that before production Black Adam, Hamada had plans of his own to get Cavill back into the ranks of Warner Bros. and DC Films. And the project he planned was Crisis on Infinite Earths. Cameos from actors in upcoming DC movies such as Michael Keaton as well as Ben Affleck in the coming Flash were described as “breadcrumbs” for a future film inspired by the story.

For the uninitiated limited edition Crisis on Infinite Earths The comics feature multiple timelines and heroes from other dimensions of Earth, not unlike Marvel Studios’ current Multiverse saga. However, we’ll never see what this film will look like under Cavill once Johnson takes matters into his own hands.
