Outlander is a popular drama series that combines fantasy and history with fantastic results, similar to another fan-favorite TV show called Game of Thrones. Outlander first aired in 2014 and is based on the author’s bestselling series Diana Gabaldon. Stars of the series Starz Katrina Balfe as Claire Randall, a World War II nurse who is accidentally transported back 200 years to 1700s Scotland and lands right in the middle of a battle for control of the Highlands. A completely out of place modern Englishwoman, Claire is forced to adapt to a very different environment and soon crosses paths with a handsome Scottish Highlander named Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan.
Outlander has a loyal fan base and the show has been running for six seasons, with a seventh season in development that should be twice as long as the sixth. Throughout the seasons, Claire and Jamie go through quite a few personal hardships (and time travel) as their journey together continues and fans want to know what’s next. But over time, this antagonism develops into romance, and Poldark follows the couple through the years as they face trouble and loss. Like Claire and Jamie, Poldark and Demelza offer the eternal romance of years gone by.
Essex kite
Although the concept may lead you to believe that Essex kite leans towards the fantastic like the show, it’s much more realistic and quite moody. The Gothic series follows a widow named Cora Seaborn.Claire Danes) as she investigates the presence of a seemingly mystical serpent that is terrorizing a small town in Essex. In the city, she is quickly labeled as an outsider among suspicious villagers, but finds a friendship with local pastor Will Ransom (Tom Hiddleston) and his wife Stella (Clemence Poesy). Complex romantic dynamics will be familiar to anyone Outlander fan. Will begins to develop feelings for Cora, but still loves and respects his wife very much. As tensions escalate over the disappearance of the locals, Cora and Will must confront not only the superstitions of the townspeople, but also the forbidden attraction they have for each other.
timeless
On the other hand, if time travel is part of Outlander your favorite, then look no further. NBC Show timeless stars Abigail Spencer as a professor of history named Lucy Preston, Matt Lanter like soldier Wyatt Logan, and Malcolm Barrett as a programmer named Rufus Carlin, who form a team tasked with tracking down a stolen time machine. With their own time machine, they must pursue the thief through the centuries, trying to change history for the benefit of a mysterious organization. The show is all about action and story, and as an added bonus, it also has some romance in it. timeless it had a small but loyal fan base while it aired, and when the show was canceled after one season, fans rallied to reverse the cancellation after just three days. Overall, the show has two seasons and a two-hour finale, so it’s a good choice if you want a quick binge with a brief ending, rather than a show that was canceled before the story could actually be completed. Tune in timeless for a fun and enjoyable story set in time.
vikings
Another popular historical drama that has many seasons to run wild. vikings. The show is based on the legends of the Viking known as Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. Season 1 begins in the late 700s with Ragnar played by Travis Fimmel, making a plan to become an earl and lead a mission to raid England. Looks like Game of Thrones, vikings has many deaths at different times of the year, but since it is more based on history, the battles and wars are similar to those that Jamie could fight throughout time. Outlander. All characters in vikings have surprisingly rich character arcs, with Katheryn Winnick playing the warrior Lagertha, who is also Ragnar’s wife, Clive Standen as brother of Ragnar Rollo and sons of Ragnar Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hoeg Andersen) and Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) all play very important roles. So if you want to have a lot of historical events mixed with drama in your next show, you should check out vikings.
Spanish princess
Spanish princess is the third in a series of television historical dramas about influential women in European history. This is a sequel to 2013 White Queen starring Rebecca Ferguson and 2017 white princess starring Jodie Comerentirely based on a series of historical novels Philippa Gregory. Spanish princessin which 16 episodes were shown in 2019 and 2020, stars Charlotte Hope like Catherine of Aragon, whose name some might recognize as belonging to the first wife of Henry VIII, but here she is a princess in the years before her marriage. The show follows her journey to England to meet Prince Arthur (Angus Imrie), her fiancé, only to end up entangled with his younger brother Henry (Ruairi O’Connor) after the tragic death of Arthur. Spanish princess there’s everything you could ever want, including romance, war, politics and court intrigue. Since most of the stories from this period of history tend to focus on the women who came after Catherine, it’s nice to see her story on screen, albeit a bit dramatized for fun. Although, to be fair, there was enough drama in European history at the time—and Tudor history in particular—that the truth hardly needed exaggeration to make television interesting.
Discovery of witches
Still looking for that fantastic twist? Discovery of witches is a gripping fantasy drama with a great central novel that fans will love Outlander will definitely like it. But Outlander fans are likely to enjoy the show even more when they get to the second season, which is mostly set in 1500s Elizabethan London. Discovery of witches based on the popular All souls book series Deborah Harknessstarring Teresa Palmer as a witch and historian named Diana Bishop and Matthew Good as vampire and biochemistry professor Matthew Claremont. They meet at Oxford where Diana is studying alchemy, engaging in a romance that challenges long-standing antagonisms between the magical species, as well as unraveling the mystery of why magic seems to be disappearing. As miserable as Jamie and Claire, Diana and Matthew are the perfect romance replacement to get stuck in while you wait Outlander couple to return.
black sails
Billed as a prequel series to Robert Louis Stevensonclassic 1883 novel Treasure Island, black sails The action takes place on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas in the early 18th century, when piracy was at its peak. Both are based on romance novels, Bridgerton offers a much lighter fare compared to Outlander but no less passionate or emotional. Following the romantic lives of the eight Bridgerton children during Regency England, there is little political intrigue or war, but more than enough romance to boot. With each season centered around one of the siblings (so far), the series has become hugely popular with viewers who want a historical romance with a little more spiciness. The first season is centered around the Duke of Hastings (Rare Jean Page) and Bridgerton’s eldest daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), and the second season focuses on the elder Bridgerton, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), and charming Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). With lots of soapy side stories, the series is sure to be enjoyed. Outlander fans who might want to take a break from some of the heavier themes that the show covers so well.
Tudors
The action takes place a little earlier than the story of Jamie and Claire. Tudors is a popular historical series set in England in the 1500s. Although there is nothing fantastic or supernatural in this story, Tudors definitely matches Outlander in terms of drama and action, and it has great period fashion to rival Claire’s iconic Scottish and French outfits. If you are not familiar with history, Tudors focuses on the infamous King Henry VIII, who is known to have had six different wives in his lifetime, the first being Catherine of Aragon, mentioned earlier. Spanish princess. Showtime stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers like Henry VIII while other familiar faces like Henry Cavill, Natalie Dormeras well as Annabelle Wallis are part of a wide range. Tudors really perfect next watch for Outlander fans, the same exciting series with colorful characters, which has no shortage of romance and tragedy.
