Amazon Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power has completely taken over the streaming world with its recent release. The show focuses on Middle-earth thousands of years before the famous Lord of the Rings as well as hobbit films that unite legendary characters in the lore of the world. When evil is reborn, a group of characters must band together to prevent destruction.
Fantasy TV series are becoming more and more popular, and fans of the popular Amazon series should fully check out some of these other options available after they finish the first season.
“Fate: Winx Saga”
This show is based on the Nickelodeon animated series Winx club, a group of fairies visit a boarding school to learn magical arts. Throughout the series, they must learn to control not only their powers, but also their hormones. The group must deal with love, rivalry, and high school drama as an almost unstoppable evil emerges.
The show has two seasons, the last of which aired on September 16, 2022. Any fan of fantasy, especially fairy tales and magic, should definitely watch this show.
“Shadow and Bone”
Record-breaking fantasy TV show based on novels Lee Bardugo, Shadow and bonetaking over the world in 2021. The series tells about Alina Starkova, who discovers in herself the magical gift of being the Sorcerer of the Sun.
Shadow and bone also incorporates a group of criminals called the “Crows” from Bardguo’s other duology “The Six Crows” into the same storyline. The show received rave reviews and was renewed for a 2nd season. A first look at Season 2 was released on September 24, 2022 during the Netflix TUDUM event.
‘The Witcher’
Witcher is another Netflix fantasy show worthy of binge watching. The show is based on the book series (and subsequent video game series) and explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia, a magical monster hunter who travels the world and uses his supernatural powers to defeat evil.
The show is like Game of Thrones its tonality and aesthetics. For fans of the video game community who love fantasy, Witcher great watch. It also plays the incomparable Henry Cavill starring!
“Wheel of Time”
Wheel of Time is an Amazon Prime Video series based on the fantasy book series of the same name. The show is about Moiraine, a member of the Aes Sedai, a powerful organization of women who can use the One Power. She is looking for a group of 5 young villagers to find the reincarnation of the Dragon, the magical conduit that destroyed the world.
As the Dark One looms overhead, the Dragon Reborn is the only one who can save them. The series was so well done that any fan of high fantasy will enjoy a world as juicy and well written as this one.
“Outlander”
Outlander Historical fantasy series based on the author’s novel series of the same name. Diana Gabaldon. The series tells the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse who is magically transported back in time to 1743. In 1700s Scotland, she meets, falls in love with, and marries a Highland warrior named Jamie Fraser.
Two of them became entangled in the Jacobite uprising. For fans of historical drama and the Georgian era in the UK, Outlander this is a fabulous choice.
“What do we do in the shadows”
Taika Waititifamous show, What are we doing in the shadows, follows four vampire neighbors in Staten Island in a mockumentary show. The show has had 4 successful seasons so far and is based on the cult film of the same name released in 2014.
The series revolves around each of the vampires as they interact with the modern world and the other supernatural beings that reside within it. What are we doing in the shadows is the perfect watch for those looking for a show with a creepy side.
“Sandman”
It is one of the most anticipated series of 2022 to date. Sandman dark fantasy series based on a comic book written by Neil Gaiman. The show follows Morpheus, the personification of dreams and a member of the seven Endless, a family of supernatural beings. When he is captured in an occult ritual and held captive for over 100 years, Dream escapes and sets out to restore order to his realm called Dreaming.
show stars Tom Sturridge like Morpheus who creates a dark and sensual performance as the Lord of Dreams. Gaiman fans and comic book lovers should definitely watch this show - even if not, the show is an exciting production.
‘A long time ago’
One of the most famous ABC series. A long time ago is a fairy tale drama series that aired for 7 seasons. The show takes place in two worlds: a fantasy world where fairy-tale characters live, and a fictional seaside town in Maine. A long time ago follows a young woman who is drawn to a city in Maine.
On the night of her 28th birthday, everything changes dramatically. The show is a fan favorite and definitely worth trying at least once to enjoy!
“His Dark Materials”
His dark materials is a fantasy series from HBO based on a trilogy of novels of the same name. Philip Pullman. The show follows an orphan named Lyra as she searches for her missing friend and accidentally discovers an entire kidnapping plot involving an extraterrestrial substance called Dust (which also turns out to be invisible).
The show has had 2 successful seasons, the third is expected to premiere in November 2022.
“Chronicles of Shannara”
Chronicles of Shannara fantasy series based on a trilogy of novels Terry Brooks. The series follows three heroes who protect an alarm tree to prevent the exiled demons from escaping.
The show, unfortunately, was canceled after 2 seasons, but, nevertheless, it was enjoyed by viewers around the world. For any fantasy fan who is more of a teen, juvenile, and adult type, this series might be the best choice.
