On October 7th, the creator of one of the most original horror miniseries on Netflix is throwing a brand new horror feast for fans. midnight club. Based on the work of the author Christopher Pike, Flanagan assures Empire that this series will not contain the panic. Although midnight club geared towards a group of teenagers, the showrunner promises that this only means less of his eloquent monologues and more fear!
midnight club it looks like it will work in the same crowd as Nickelodeon. Are you afraid of the dark? as well as R. L. SteinX street of fear trilogy, which is also on Netflix. The series, based on the novel of the same name, follows a group of teenagers at a hospice who meet in the dead of the night to tell ghost stories. They are each diagnosed with a terminal illness, leading to a pact between them: whoever dies first must promise to try to contact after death. Shortly after one of them leaves, frightening things begin to happen, and in the teaser, we see a dark ghost haunting the teenagers in the shadows.
As the series targets a younger audience, Flanagan’s signature long monologues will be cut in favor of a darker tone and creepy scares. As with Pike’s original work, midnight club would not coddle their target audience, rather, according to Flanagan, they worked on the assumption that “younger viewers can handle fears”. It’s a beloved horror genre, and the director is excited to share his passion with a new generation. He even teases that no one in midnight club safe by saying:
“His work has had a huge impact on me. He wrote some pretty advanced stuff for his younger readers, and it was not uncommon for his teenage characters to die in rather shocking fashion. dark. So I became a bit of an addict.”
As a sign of respect for the older generation of the creator, Flanagan received a horror icon. Heather Langenkamp portray a pediatrician and a hospice overseer. Langenkamp is best known for her role as Nancy Thompson’s last girlfriend in the 1984 film. A Nightmare on Elm Street. Flanagan’s previous collaborator Matt Biedel (midnight mass) will also appear. By joining them midnight club members Ruth Codd (Fall of the House of Usher), Iman Benson (#BlackAF), Igby Rigney (F9: Fast Saga), Adiya, Annara Simon (midnight mass), Aya Furukawa (Brand new cherry flavor), William Chris Sumpter (New York Dreams) as well as Saurian Sapkota (Fall of the House of Usher).
Flanagan, who directs two episodes of the show, has hired a talented group of directors to helm the series, including Morgan Beggs who worked on his mini-series in his sophomore year The Haunting of Bly Manor also acts as a co-producer, Axel Caroline (American Horror Story: Double Feature), Michael Fimonjari (Fall of the House of Usher) as well as Viet Nguyen (Flash). co-author Leah Fong (A long time ago) will executive produce with Flanagan and Trevor Macy (Strangers).
