Netflix has released a new trailer for their new anime. Cyberpunk: Edge Runners and it’s giving anime giant Studio Trigger a chance to show its might by introducing members of the Edgerunners team. This is one of the best portrayals of the characters that viewers will come across in the series, showcasing their unique design and personality. In addition, there is a lot of bloody action, as well as hints of a wider story that will involve the Edgerunners team. The ten-episode series is coming to the streamer in September.

After a few action scenes and hints at protagonist David’s past, the footage cuts through the main Edgerunners team. David comes across as a confident street kid and Edgerunners rookie thanks to his super speed, which comes through in a bright neon spot. He is followed by the seemingly leader of the group, Maine, whose tough exterior, armed arm, and great glasses are reminiscent of Barrett from Final Fantasy VII. There’s also a resident beefy Dorio who comes with a revolver and super strength, followed by the most mechanical of the group, Kiwi. From her electronic voice to the way her eyes seem to lose their glow when damaged, she looks more like an android than an augmented human. Pilar is one of the wackiest of the group, with sprained limbs and a hint of madness in her voice, while Rebecca acts like a complete, licentious canon, holding a gun to David’s head. Rounding out the group is Lucy, another protagonist who is more reserved but very experienced.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Much of the rest of the trailer focuses on the sensory overload of the action and the flashy colors, although there are some important details about the relationship between David and Lucy. The elusive Lucy inspires David to take up a life of crime as a modified criminal with the Edgerunners. However, their bond goes beyond that as they show genuine concern for each other and even share a kiss when David promises to take her to the moon one day. Judging by how much the pair have been shown together in promotional material, their relationship seems to be at the heart of the series.

Cyberpunk: Edge Runners produced Cyberpunk 2077 Studio CD Projekt RED and Studio Trigger animation. CD Project Rafal Yaki (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077) serves as showrunner and executive producer for the series. Among the producers of the show Satoru Homma, Bartosz Stiboras well as Saya Elder.
