Lidl is phasing out cigarettes in Denmark
In mid-May, we wrote about Lidl in the context of plans to withdraw cigarettes from the chain’s Danish stores. Denmark’s first tobacco-free Lidl store opened on May 11 in Hjørring in the north of the country. This is not the first such establishment in Europe, insiders know that Dutch supermarkets have stopped selling such products as of 2021.
One of the deputy managers of the Danish Lidl says that this idea is dictated by an important initiative. The network wants to take care of the health of customers and does not intend to make it easier for them to further addiction. The board of the Danish branch cites reliable data that shows that about 16,000 people die every year in Denmark because of cigarettes. People. Compared to Poland, it’s still not so bad. According to 2015 data, about 80,000 people die here for the same reason. People. Does this mean that changes will be made in our country in the coming years? Nothing is known about this at the moment.
