Soon, many Poles will receive higher cash benefits as part of the maternity benefit. Stakeholders should not miss an important deadline. There are a few days left.

A higher maternity benefit in an era of runaway inflation is a useful cash injection. However, in order not to lose it, a simple condition must be met. Since April 26, there have been changes in the regulations - not only the amount of the allowance is increased, but also the period for its payment is extended. The most important date in this regard is May 17th. We reveal why.

Increased maternity allowance. Poles must remember this date

The amount of benefits for pregnancy and childbirth will increase to 100%. the basis for calculating benefits for the period of maternity leave and is 70 percent. the basis for calculating benefits for the period of parental leave. On the other hand, if an insured mother files a so-called long-term application, the benefit will increase from 80 percent. up to 81.5 percent salary. However, it must be submitted within 21 days of delivery.

Under the new rules, the money will be paid out 9 weeks longer than before. Persons who received benefits on April 26, i.e. on the day the new rules come into force, they must submit the relevant documents to ensure a new conversion and a higher rate. Otherwise, the funds will be forfeited.

Poles have to submit these declarations only until May 17th. If they don’t make it by the next Wednesday, they will have to put up with the loss of a higher benefit. The principle is reminiscent of the representative of the Social Insurance Administration Pavel Zhebrovsky. “After the specified period, it will be impossible to apply, and the allowance will be paid in the current amount,” he said.

These applications are submitted to the payer, i.e. employer, principal or ZUS. Only in the latter case do we have the option to do this electronically using the ZUS platform on the POG form. In other cases, we have to fill out the forms manually and deliver them personally to the relevant departments.

Of the other important changes regarding maternity leave, you should know that from April 26, persons subject to sickness insurance is entitled to 5 days of parental leave during the calendar year. We also want to remind you that every dad who received the right to parental leave on April 26 has a shorter period of use than other fathers, for now - he can take 2 weeks of leave, however, during until the child is 12 months old.
