Poles prefer to keep their financial surpluses in banks. They willingly invest in foreign currencies, investment funds and stocks. Increasingly, they favor alternative investments. We invest in paintings and works of art, coins and classic cars.
Collectors from all over Poland met over the weekend in Warsaw’s Bielany. Their rich offer included antiques, old postcards, stamps and numismatics. The event, which was the seventh edition of the Warsaw Collectors’ Exchange, also attracted the attention of several thousand fans and lovers of antiques related to history.
Coins and stamps are no longer just a hobby. It’s a sure way to make money
- Collecting old coins or stamps is no longer just a hobby. You can make good money on this buyers objected. According to collector Piotr Kosanovski, many newcomers to the numismatic market today are strictly investors, but most of them are those who have run away with their savings from banks and are trying to turn real money into assets by all means.
— There is a large group of clients who see numismatics as a form of portfolio diversification, sharing it with, for example, gold, stocks or other forms of investment assets. - says the creator and founder of the Numismatic Portal project.
Alternative investments are becoming more and more popular
This is confirmed by the results of the latest study “Alternative investments through the eyes of the Poles”, which was conducted by experts commissioned by Volkswagen Bank. This shows that coins, paintings and works of art as well as classic cars are the items that Poles find most attractive in terms of investment.
Nearly three-quarters of Poles (73 percent) named collectible coins as the best example of alternative investment. Not much less, because 71 percent. We are convinced that the purchase of paintings and works of art is a profitable investment. More than half of those surveyed (54%) associate alternative investments with classic cars.
Lego bricks and tokens are no longer so enthusiastic among collectors
Watches (46%) and rare alcoholic beverages such as whiskey (43%) also top the list. At the other extreme, according to respondents, are collections of Lego bricks (9%) or NFT electronic tokens (8%). According to respondents, the main advantage of such an undertaking is the possibility of investing in what they like, as well as the possibility of developing a hobby.
This is the opinion of more than half of the respondents (52%). Almost every second Pole would like to protect their money from high inflation in this way. For one in three (32%), this is a way to diversify their capital. Only 8 percent of respondents are convinced that this form of investment is unprofitable.
Classic cars are the dream of many collectors
The study revealed the unusual approach of the Poles to classic cars, which we value as an investment, but we do not have enough knowledge to invest in them. The majority of respondents (57%) believe that investing in vintage cars is profitable. However, as many as 82 percent people would not dare to buy such a car, even if they had sufficient financial resources.
First, we don’t have a place where they could store the car. Secondly, there is a lack of special knowledge about them. - Classic cars, in order to increase their investment value, should be stored indoors and protected from the weather. Fortunately, investors are becoming more and more aware of this. - says Przemysław Grygencz, CEO of Ardor Auctions, the first and only auction house in Poland dealing with classic and vintage cars. - We are seeing a clear resurgence of the classic car market in Poland. he adds.
The older the machine, the greater the profit
The company sold 67 classic cars in 2022 and closed 25 more deals in the first quarter of this year. According to the director, the value of transactions is also much higher than in previous years, which may indicate that the society has financial resources that they can and want to invest in unique cars.
Ronald Kulikowski, Managing Director of Volkswagen Bank GmbH in Poland, speaks in the same tone. - Owning a classic car can be not only a dream come true, but perhaps, above all, as experts say, a long-term investment. - speaks.
- Interest in classic motorsport is growing every year. There are more and more places where you can see and buy such a car, including through auctions. Most young or old cars become more expensive with age, that is, the older the car, the more expensive it is. he points.
