The Seimas adopted the Law on Wind Power Plants. The amendment caused controversy for several months. At first, he lay in the parliamentary freezer for six months, and then waited for the last amendments to be made.
The Windmill Act, or the so-called 10H Act, in addition to the Supreme Court Act, is a key milestone in the allocation of funds from the National Recovery Plan.
Windmill law passed
On February 8, the Seimas voted in favor of the draft and passed the law with amendments, including, in particular, changing the minimum distance from 500 to 700 meters. This is the result of a high-profile handwritten note presented by its chairman, Marek Suski, to the Energy Committee.
– We must make sure that the energy system in Poland is stable, but a system based solely on renewable energy will not be stable. We look at this broadly and are preparing other solutions, such as nuclear energy and gas energy. Windmills are just a small addition, because it doesn’t always blow - Rafal Bochenek, spokesman for Law and Justice, told Polsat News about this.
Windmills at a distance of 700 meters from buildings
The adopted amendment to the Law on wind farms provides for a minimum distance from buildings, which is 700 meters. In the original government draft, it was postulated to be 500 meters. But that’s what the last-minute amendment was about.
The Sejm rejected the proposal of the opposition, which wanted to enable the organization of local referendums, in which the inhabitants of the communes could close this distance.
- The distance of 700 meters is valid in many European countries, including Austria. In some countries distance is measured, in others it is measured in decibels. We had to accept some criteria, and after talking to our voters, we accepted them: This was stated by the representative of the organization “Law and Justice”.
