Despite the shutdown of some wind turbines during the Christmas and New Year period, a new record for one-day wind turbine energy exports from Poland was broken. PSE provided data.
In recent days, the wind over Poland has been so strong that Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne had to be ordered to turn off some wind farms so that energy production does not exceed domestic demand. However, an interesting situation occurred.
Record export of wind power
According to Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, the operator of the Polish power grid, on the last day of last year wind farms were ordered to cut their operation. PSE ordered a 600 MW cut in wind power from midnight to 2 am. This is because the wind was so strong that the turbines produced much more power than needed.
Another order to reduce was issued on January 1. According to the Rzeczpospolita, depending on the hour, it ranged from 200 to as much as 3,000 MW. Despite the restrictions imposed, Poland was forced to record the export of energy resources to neighboring countries as part of the international cross-border exchange.
A record that didn’t make a profit
As part of export. As many as 21 GWh of Polish energy from wind farms went mainly to Germany. However, this does not mean that the Polish operator recorded a record profit from the sale of electricity. Evidently, wind energy production in Europe was very high, so the price of electricity in the market fell sharply.
