The tragic event took place on the night of August 12-13 near Memmingen in Bavaria. The Tesla driver lost control of the electric car, flew off the road and crashed into a pole. The car burned down along with the driver.
The car slid almost 40 m along the protective barrier.
According to the Bavarian police, the 31-year-old Tesla driver was driving on national road No. 2017. For unknown reasons, the man drove into the left lane and then pulled off the road. The car crashed into a fence, slid about 38 meters and finally hit the front of a concrete power line pole. The electric car was seriously damaged and caught fire.
The driver did not survive the accident
When local residents heard the explosion, they went to the scene and immediately notified emergency services. However, help for the Tesla driver came too late, and he died on the spot. Several fire brigades from Breitenbrunn, Kirchheim, Babenhausen and Pfaffenhausen took part in extinguishing the fire of the electric vehicle. Firefighters also helped remove the driver’s body from the rubble. In addition, emergency services with an ambulance doctor and operational management worked at the scene.
Long fire fighting operation
According to Augsburger Allgemeine, the action to extinguish the electric car was extremely difficult. Firefighters had to cool the car’s hot traction battery for several hours. Tesla’s wreckage could not be towed until morning hours after the fire was extinguished. The cause of the accident must be determined by an expert called to the scene. The losses associated with the accident are estimated at around 75,000 euros.
