It’s just that one morning - usually when the temperature drops below zero - their car won’t start. An old, worn out or damaged battery is one of the most common causes of these problems. First, check that the problem is definitely in the battery.
If your vehicle is having ignition problems, the battery may be the cause. However, it often happens that the entire charging system, such as the alternator, is the culprit. This scenario becomes more likely, especially if the battery has been replaced more recently.
However, if you really need a new battery, an important question arises - what equipment to choose? What settings should it have? “Easiest advice: it is best to buy a battery with the same parameters and technology that was used at the factory,” they wrote in the article. Simple and precise advice.
Batteries for vehicles with start-stop system
Now there are many modern, more advanced devices on the market. They are also, of course, more expensive than their traditional, simpler counterparts. The new EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) batteries have a polyester layer on the positive plates. They are designed for vehicles with a start-stop system. On the other hand, AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries are batteries in which glass fiber mats impregnated with electrolyte are placed between lead plates. They also work in cars with start-stop, and besides, just in those that have a lot of receivers or energy recovery systems during braking.
What is worth knowing about them? It makes no sense to buy such a battery for a “regular” car without these amenities. More expensive, not necessarily better. In turn, the use of a conventional battery for a car that had one of the above types of equipment from the factory will quickly take its toll. Such a battery will work, but not for long. It’s not worth saving here. Then you can treat yourself to an unpleasant morning.
