The expected Ukrainian offensive is the last big opportunity for Kyiv. A difficult week of the war is ahead, but after the onset the situation will clear up, said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an interview with radio Kossuth.
“Russia will not sit back and watch it fail. Budapest is especially interested in peace”- said Viktor Orban and noted that the war between Russia and Ukraine is unlikely to end this year.
“A prosperous and successful Ukraine would be in our interest, it would add value to Hungary. Ukraine in trouble, at war, destroyed, threatened, losing hundreds of thousands of lives, reduces the attractiveness of Hungary“, - said the head of government. In his interview, Viktor Orban once again made a scandalous statement, saying that part of Transcarpathia is “ancient Hungarian lands that now belong to Ukraine», and the Hungarians are an indigenous community there. That is why Budapest is especially interested in peace.” However, this part was cut from the final recording, uploaded to YouTube.
By the way, Orban has repeatedly been noted for scandalous statements about Ukraine. In his interview, he also stressed the Vatican’s determination to stop the bloodshed, and that Pope Francis is also counting on Hungary on this issue.
