Survivor’s pension: PFC spoke about the features of calculating payments to children

The pension in connection with the loss of a breadwinner is assigned to disabled members of the family of the deceased who were dependent on him, if the breadwinner on the day of death acquired the necessary insurance experience lasting from 1 to 15 years, depending on his age at the time of death.

However, as noted in the Pension Fund of Ukraine, in this case, a pension is assigned to children regardless of whether they were supported by the breadwinner.

For two or more children, a pension is assigned in the amount of 100 percent of the pension for the age of the deceased breadwinner.

If the monthly amount of pension payments (taking into account allowances, increases, additional pensions, targeted financial assistance, indexation amounts and other additional payments to pensions established by law, except for pensions for special services to Ukraine and a monthly supplement to pensions in connection with the loss of a breadwinner to members of miners’ families whose death occurred due to an accident at work or an occupational disease) does not reach three or more family members - 150% of the subsistence minimum established by law for persons who have lost their ability to work, such persons are provided with a monthly state pension allowance in the amount that is not enough to the specified dimensions.

That is, the monthly pension payment for 3 children cannot be less than UAH 3,139.50 (UAH 2,093 x 150%, where 2,093 is the subsistence minimum for people who have lost their ability to work).

This type of pension is paid to children until they reach the age of 18. However, payments are retained to those who study full-time in general education, vocational and technical universities and are entitled to such a pension. It continues to be paid until graduation, but no longer than until they reach the age of 23. Also, payments do not stop if such a child was adopted.

Meanwhile, Ukraine plans to create a Unified Register of Missing Persons under Special Circumstances. This will allow families who have lost such a breadwinner to receive social benefits, regardless of whether the missing person had insurance (pension) experience.
