Ukrainian artists continue to work, embodying the emotions and experiences of the Great War in their work. Singer Ulyana Royce presents a new track and video “At Home”. This work became the third single, completing the musical trilogy written by Ulyana during the war.
- This is not the first war in my life. In 2014, my family and I already had to deal with this word, which freezes the blood in the veins, - the singer told FACTS. - Mariupol, August 27, 2014, I am 12 years old, 03:00 am, eyes of relatives, pregnant mother for 8 months, dear to the unknown, sister sleeping on her knees - this is how I remember that day that I will never forget.
Kyiv, February 24, 2022, I am 19, 04:00 at night, the eyes of relatives, replay frames. This time I had to go far. With my younger sister, brother and mother, we went to Transcarpathia, and then to Poland. At such moments, I want children to see the horrors of war least of all. But they, like no one else, read emotions and understand everything perfectly. On the way, my younger brother uttered the following phrase: “Ulyana, can you imagine, I’m 8 years old and my whole life goes on at war.” Those words hurt a lot. Something broke in the middle and I wanted to inspire my brother with the hope that a peaceful life will return to us, and that all children and people will be able to live in a free country without fear.
In this trilogy, the singer combined all her experiences and emotions associated with the outbreak of the war, as well as a personal story of a difficult parting, in parallel with all the events in Ukraine.
Therefore, the work is permeated with tender memories of a peaceful life and hope.
- The hope that people will be able to return home, hug their loved ones, see the eyes of their relatives not through the phone screen, remember such warm moments of walking around their beloved city under a peaceful sky. The track carries the understanding that it is impossible to return the people who gave their lives in this war, - added Ulyana.
The artist backed up the song “House” with a poignant video, which they, together with their team, filmed on the territory of the railway station in Kyiv. It was on February 24, 2022 that hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians gathered in this place to get away from the war, but over time, most returned to their native land. For the artist, the station is a family uniting, a place where they always see off and - most importantly - they always meet those closest to them.
Recall that Boris Johnson’s vintage jacket was noticed on Ukrainian singer Ulyana Royce: “Inspired to create a song.”
