Financial assistance abroad: the Ombudsman explained whether refugees need to declare it

Must read

Ukrainian refugees must declare the payments they received abroad. However, you do not need to pay tax for such assistance.

This was reported in the Office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights.

It is noted that millions of citizens since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia have found protection in other countries. While abroad, many have applied for refugee status and receive financial assistance.

According to the Tax Code, taxpayers must file an annual declaration of assets and income in order to pay taxes. However, the legislation contains an exception for the taxation of income abroad.

“This applies to individuals and family members who have suffered as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and have exercised the right to temporary protection abroad and receive assistance from foreign states and their state funds,” - the message says.

Therefore, Ukrainians receiving payments abroad must declare financial assistance. However, the tax on this foreign income and the military tax is not required to be paid in this case.

Recall that earlier lawyers advised what to do if Ukrainians leaving Poland are illegally deprived of social benefits.
