Cucumbers, like other vegetables in the country, require proper watering and feeding, but many gardeners are faced with such a problem as falling ovaries
The garden notes that there are several common causes.
First, the lack of pinching. Stepchildren take away moisture and nutrients. It is recommended to remove all stepchildren formed from the axils of the first 3-6 leaves. And those stepsons that have formed above are pinched after the second sheet. Stems of the second order - formed from the sinuses of stepchildren, must be removed above the first leaf. This is done when the stepchildren grow up to 3-6 cm, when the plant becomes very sprawling - in early or mid-July.
Secondly, the planting of cucumbers is thickened. Plants do not have enough space for food, they begin to get sick and drop their ovaries. So when planting cucumbers, you need to carefully learn information about how much space a particular variety needs.
Thirdly, improper feeding. Actively growing cucumbers need a lot of moisture and nutrients. When the plants are not flowering, they need a nutrient rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, such as manure. And if they are already bearing fruit, then fertilizers with a predominance of phosphorus and potassium are needed. For example, an infusion of herbs with the addition of 1 tbsp. l. superphosphate and 1 tbsp. ashes.
Fourthly, incorrect pollination of bee-pollinated hybrids of cucumbers in the greenhouse. Varieties are considered more productive and disease resistant than self-pollinating ones. Such plants have a female type of flowering - for pollination of flowers, pollen is needed, which is formed in male flowers. To do this, you need to open the greenhouse during the day so that the bees have free access to flowering plants. Or pollinate by hand.
Fifth, untimely harvesting of fruits. Cucumbers need to be harvested every two days, preventing the fruits from overgrowing. Large cucumbers deprive only the newly formed fruits of nutrients, reducing the quality and quantity of the future crop.
Sixth, improper ventilation of the greenhouse. Low or high temperatures can lead to the appearance of a large number of infertile ovaries. It should be remembered that cucumbers are thermophilic crops, they do not tolerate drafts. It is recommended to open the film in the greenhouse when the temperature inside rises above 30 degrees. They do this in turn: first on one side of the building, and then on the other.
Seventh, the removal of barren flowers. This cannot be done, since barren flowers are male flowers, they are needed for the fertilization of female flowers. Without them there will be no pollination. To avoid the appearance of a large number of empty flowers, it is recommended to sow cucumber seeds with a shelf life of 4-5 years. If the mass formation of male flowers did occur, stop abundant watering for a while, spraying only the very soil under the bushes. And when the leaves on the lashes begin to fade, restore normal watering.
It should be remembered that cucumbers form more inflorescences than they can feed. Therefore, after the end of pollination, plants always lose their excessive ovary - this is a natural process.
Also, experienced gardeners recommend cutting off mustaches from cucumbers, and when they stop appearing, rejuvenate the bush.
