According to information provided by the Catalan sports publication Mundo Deportivo, the legendary Brazilian striker Romario has been hospitalized. The reason for this state of affairs was named.

57-year-old Romario de Souza Faria is an absolute legend of Brazilian football. He won the hearts of the fans, speaking both on European and domestic fields. For fans, he is most associated with playing at clubs such as Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, Vasco da Gama and Valencia. In total, in his club career, he played 252 games, scored 197 goals and added 35 assists, which meant that it took him just 106 minutes to score. In addition, he is one of the most productive players of the Brazilian national team, for which he scored 63 goals in 77 matches. In retirement, he took up beach soccer. He is currently battling health issues.

Romero is in the hospital

According to Mundo Deportivo, on Thursday, July 13, Romario de Souza Faria was taken to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, as he complained of constant discomfort and pain. According to journalists, his condition is stable, and although the doctors did not give exact data on his well-being, it is known that an intestinal infection became the cause of this condition. Doctors suspect that this may be due to the operation to remove the gallbladder, which the Brazilian underwent in 2021.

In addition to the aforementioned beach soccer game, the 57-year-old decided to pursue a political career after retiring. In 2010, he became an MP and four years later was appointed Senator for Brazil’s right-wing Liberal Party, a formation led by the former president of the Country of Coffee, Jair Bolsonaro. While still playing professional football, he had the honor of representing South American clubs such as Flamengo, Fluminense or America RJ. He also traveled to Asia, where he lived for several months at Al-Sadd in Qatar, and also played in the Australian Adelaide and the American Miami.
