The Russians fell into the Yoke of Sviontek. They have serious claims to Poland

Must read

Iga Swiatek has consistently supported Ukraine since the beginning of the war. The understandable statement of the polka and the words spoken before Wimbledon did not please Russia. The leader of the WTA rating was in the spotlight of one of the Russian portals.

Our tennis player has been consistently at the top of the world rankings since April 4, 2022. Ever since the Russians attacked Ukraine, the Pole has clearly stood for solidarity with our eastern neighbors. Iga Sviontek also performs in tournaments around the world with a characteristic ribbon in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

Russians criticize Iga Swiatek for “politicization of sports”

The leader of the WTA rating was the heroine of the text on the Sport-express.ru portal. It was about the words of the Pole, which were said on the eve of the start of Wimbledon. Swiatek acknowledged, among other things, that the tournament participants must answer questions related to the war in Ukraine.

“I believe that everyone should be against the war. It makes sense to me. Looking at last year’s events, it’s good that the organizers are asking about it, admitted Swiatek, which we wrote about in the text on Sunday.

Oleg Shamonaev, the author of the text for the Russian portal, criticizes the polka for her words.

“The first racket of the world called on the media and the organizers of the upcoming Wimbledon to ask political questions about the events in Ukraine. […] The general calls for the politicization of sports from Swiatek, who has repeatedly criticized Russia, sound alarming. Moreover, the second racket of the world, Arina Sobolenko, categorically disagrees with her, ”we read in the text on the Sport-express.ru website.

Russian media sided with Arina Sobolenko

In the eyes of a Russian journalist, the Belarusian is presented as an example of a character traumatized by the lack of “sports neutrality”.

“Sobolenko should have been boycotting political issues a long time ago, and then she would have avoided the need to make special statements on the eve of Wimbledon,” adds Shamonaev.

The tennis player, a native of Minsk, said in London at a meeting with journalists that she did not intend to discuss anything other than purely sports topics. However, it seems that this is only the beginning of the next part of the “series”, which we have witnessed, including during the Grand Slam tournament at Roland Garros.
