There is less and less time left before the elections to the Polish Olympic Committee. For a long time it seemed that we would see the fight between two strong candidates. Suddenly, one of them is about to announce his retirement from the competition.
Elections are an event that strongly moves society not only in politics, but also in sports. Especially when it comes to one of the most prestigious institutions, which is the Polish Olympic Committee. For many years, the longtime helmsman has been in power, but according to media reports, this situation may soon change dramatically.
Polish Olympic Committee president withdraws from re-election fight
According to TVP Sport, the current president of the Polish Olympic Committee, Andrzej Krasnicki, is due to announce his withdrawal from the April elections. The helmsman of the Polish Olympics has held this position since 2010, when he replaced Piotr Nurovsky, who tragically died in a plane crash near Smolensk. For many years, Krasnicki combined his powers in the Committee with the management of the Handball Association in Poland. In addition, since 2017 he has been a member of the executive committee of the Association of European Olympic Committees.
Krasnicki was scheduled to fight for re-election with Radoslav Pesevich, the current president of the Polish Basketball Association and the Energa Basket League. In view of the proposed resignation of the elderly gentleman, the helmsman of the Polish Basketball Federation will be the only candidate for the presidency of the Polish Olympic Committee.
- The Polish Olympic Committee cannot be just an institution that dresses Olympians every two years, organizes flights and sends them to the Olympic Games. I would like to have a lot more money. With Olympic athletes battling for medals in the world’s most important event, every sponsor can “warm up”. There is no better money spent on specific marketing purposes than on sports,” Pesevich told TVP Sport in January.
Radosław Pesiewicz is the only candidate in the elections to the Polish Olympic Committee.
According to media reports, if he wins the election, Pesevich will remain president of PZKosz, but will step down as head of the EBL. His place was taken by Lukasz Koszarek. The legend of the Polish national team will end his professional career at the end of the season.
