Szymon Marchiniak returns to refereeing the Champions League

A well-executed World Cup final earned Szymon Marchiniak and his assistants great respect in the world of football, and they began to be invited to other major football events. After the end of the World Cup in Qatar, the 42-year-old footballer did not have time to rest and was in the lead in matches, including in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Cyprus, and later returned to work at PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Now he will have the opportunity to referee the Champions League match again.

The pole was appointed as the referee of the return match of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League between Porto and Inter. Line judges will be Pavel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, while Tomasz Kwiatkowski will sit in the VAR car. The last time Szymon Marchiniak had the opportunity to referee the Champions League match between Olympique de Marseille and Tottenham. In addition, the 42-year-old was already in charge of Inter Milan this season when they faced Barcelona in the group stage. The match ended in a draw 3:3, and the Pole and his assistants received the highest marks.

The first match between Porto and Inter ended with a 1-0 victory for Nezazuri. Romelu Lukaku scored the only goal of the match. The return match between these teams will take place on Tuesday, March 14 at 21:00.
