On the one hand, Adam Malysh was happy after the second individual race at the Ski Jumping World Championships, and on the other hand, he was sad. The president of PZN told why he felt sorry for Kamil Stoch and how the player himself could have reacted.

The 2022/23 season has been bittersweet for Kamil Stoch. The fact that after the previous disastrous year the leader of our team returned to jumping at a high level is good. However, unfortunately, he often lacks very little to be on the podium. So it was, including in the individual competition, which took place on March 3 in Planica during the World Championship. The 36-year-old athlete almost made it to the podium. Now Adam Malysh said that he was very sorry for his younger colleague, and told how this could affect the player.

Adam Malysh on the defeat of Kamil Stoch. He must not lose hope for the World Cup

“It’s sad,” he admitted without any hesitation in an interview with sport.pl. The head of PZN recalled that Stoch finished the competition in 4th place at the World Championships, just like last year during the Olympic Games, and this is a very difficult situation from the point of view of the jumper. – For someone it would be a great feat, but for Kamil, taking a position right behind the podium is not cool. The situation is very difficult,” he said.

“There is no consolation here. I’ve been in this a few times too, and I know that someone comes and comforts you, but in the end you’re still alone. You think how close you were and what you did wrong, that it was not enough for a medal. It’s also hard for everyone who helped Kamil to succeed, ”said Malysh. According to him, at such moments one should not try to cheer up the athlete by force, but let him calmly swallow this bitter pill.

At the same time, the PZN president indicated that he hoped that a small defeat in the individual competition would have a positive effect on Stoch’s approach to team competition. “On Saturday we even have a chance to win gold. Nothing has been lost yet. He can still come back with a medal, - Malysh summed up.
