Magdalena Cardinal with the SEA Award in the Patient Organization Leader category: Cancer is curable

Must read

I wanted all women in Poland, especially young women, to be fully educated on how to treat breast cancer, depending on its subtype. I also want them to get genetic tests more often, because this allows them to tailor the treatment to the patient, which is a prerequisite for the effectiveness of the treatment,” says Magdalena Kardynal, winner of the SEA 2023 award in the Patient Organization Leader category.

Magdalena Kardynal is the founder and president of the OmeaLife Foundation - Breast Cancer Doesn’t Limit, co-founder of the Breast Cancer Knowledge Center in Gdansk and the Omeika conference. She herself was treated for cancer. “I created the Foundation because I know how important knowledge is for a woman with cancer. Women willingly take advantage of education, having knowledge, they feel safe, they are taken care of, they are also the best partners for communication with doctors, emphasizes Magdalena Kardynal.

The experience of going through oncological diseases shows that breast cancer is a disease that can be cured. “Cancer should not be scared, but emphasized that it is curable, provided that it is diagnosed at an early stage, which is why it is so important to conduct preventive examinations,” she said. She also said that she would like to change the treatment of breast cancer in Poland: – I would very much like to expand the possibilities of conducting genetic tests when necessary; in this way it is possible to develop a “tailor-made” treatment for the patient.

She also noted that the recently formed Women’s Health Coalition, which brings together women working in various patient organizations, has the potential to bring about many changes in the care of women with cancer by joining forces.
