Swimming goggles are not required while swimming, but it is worth wearing them. They protect the eyes and make it easier to see underwater.
Swim goggles protect your eyes from chlorine or salt water, as well as germs in the water. Properly fitted goggles also provide UV protection when swimming outdoors. Arming yourself with them is not only when swimming in the pool.
How to choose swimming goggles?
Swimming goggles must be tried on before purchase. Every face is different and goggles should protect your eyes from water. Experts advise pressing glasses to your eyes to suck out air. The glasses should stay in their sockets for a while on their own. If they are, then they are good. There are different goggles - softer and more comfortable to wear, they are designed primarily for beginners and swimming enthusiasts. The so-called Swedish glasses, ie. smaller rigid goggles, while not as comfortable, provide a much larger field of view.
If you can’t choose your goggles or are in doubt, it’s always worth asking the sports shop’s service center for professional advice on which goggles are best for you.
What can I do to keep my glasses from fogging up?
In order for the goggles to perform their function and not only protect the eyes, but also help to see better while swimming, they must not be fogged up. Many glasses have a special filter that prevents fogging, but if you wipe the glasses with a towel, rub them with your hands, it will lose its function. There are also special anti-fog liquids, and many use … their own saliva.
This is an old and proven way. It is used by swimmers or divers, but is short-lived and the treatment often has to be repeated. You can also wash the glasses with water and detergent - this is a more durable method, but it should also be repeated. It is also very important to take good care of your glasses. After each swim, dry them well and try not to touch the slide with your fingers.
