Ukraine can end the war on its own terms, favorable to us, but for this, all of us, Ukrainians, must fight the Russian enemy.
The President of Ukraine stated this Vladimir Zelensky when addressing on the occasion of the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol.
“From February 26, 14, to this day, a lot has changed, and everyone is aware of the direction of these huge changes. We can end this war on our Ukrainian terms. We can return our land and people from occupation. We can bring Russia to fair responsibility for what it has done. But for this to happen, we must fight,” - he said.
The President recalled that today we are remembering the events that took place 10 years ago - they took place in the Ukrainian Crimea, when our peninsula was stolen by Russia.
“And when, together with the Russian occupation army, humiliation and mockery of people, repression and fear entered our Crimea. “Russian revanchism gave birth to this brutal war, which is now ongoing against Ukraine, precisely when it felt that the world was capable of turning a blind eye to such crimes, to such annexations, to such a mockery of people whose homes were simply taken away,” - says Zelensky.
The head of state emphasized that wars end truly honestly when the evil that gave rise to them can be extinguished.
“And that is why a sense of justice and a desire for peace must go hand in hand. This requires, in particular, not to forget about Crimea. Fight for Crimea. To resist the evil that Russia brought to Crimea, and then tried to spread throughout Ukraine and wants to spread also on the lands of other peoples,” – he continued.
Zelensky added that Ukraine must build up real counteraction to Russian evil, “at all levels, all over the world.”
“We must fight for the people in Crimea and all other occupied parts of Ukraine. We must fight for the full restoration of the power of international law - power in relation to Crimea, and therefore any other land. We must fight for the fundamental right of the Crimean Tatar people, like any other people, the right to live in their own home.”– he continued.
Zelensky noted that winning in each of these points “is to extinguish Russian revanchism, that is, to actually end the war.”
“I am grateful to everyone who does not forget about Crimea, who helps our efforts in Crimea. Who helps our soldiers? Who is fighting in Crimea against the occupiers. Who does not give his own soul to Russian evil. Who helps to free people repressed by the Russian regime, who supports these people and maintains their faith - faith in justice, in its strength, in Ukraine. The return of all our prisoners, the return of all those deported from Ukraine, the return of Crimean political prisoners is our absolute priority. I am grateful to all the countries that are helping us with this,” – he summarized.
Note that the temporarily occupied Crimea was captured by Russia in 2014. In October 2023, Vladimir Zelensky said that Crimea, captured by the Russians, would probably be easier to de-occupy than Donbass. We are talking not only about the liberation of territories, but also about the mental return of people to Ukraine. In particular, despite the fact that Ukrainian troops have not yet been able to return Crimea, occupied by the Russians, to the control of our state, the VU already has certain results in its work to liberate the peninsula.
