Without security guarantees, there are only guarantees of war: Zelensky explained Ukraine’s desire to become a NATO member

This is a year for decisions, so Ukraine expects to receive an invitation to join NATO and a clear decision on joining the EU.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit of the European Political Community in Moldova.

“Recently, a Chinese journalist asked me: “Why NATO? The answer is simple: when there are no guarantees of security, there are only guarantees of war. We have not heard about the possibility of creating a China+NATO+Ukraine security alliance. But we need peace, a just world.”he said.

The President added that Ukraine is preparing a peace summit to implement the Ukrainian peace formula.

“This year is for decisions. At the NATO summit in Vilnius this summer, Ukraine needs a clear invitation to NATO membership. In autumn we need a clear decision on our accession to the EU. We are also preparing a peace summit that will direct the world’s majority towards the realization of our peace formula. And this is a global need.”he said.

In addition, Zelensky assured that positive decisions for Ukraine would be positive for everyone.

“Time and doubt must disappear. Positive decisions for Ukraine will become positive for everyone. Safe base. Obviously, for Moldova. It is very important. In the future - for Georgia. I have no doubt that with time and for Belarus. And that means for the European world. For there will not be a single trench of doubt left for aggression against someone in Europe.”the President emphasized.

Also in his speech, the head of state said that Europe needs full protection from Russian terror. Therefore, everything must be done to prevent the death of Ukrainians from the shelling of Russia.

“There are none among us who do not know what solutions Europe needs now. The first is full-fledged protection against Russian terror. Both on earth and in heaven. This night, Russian missiles claimed three more lives in our capital, Kiev… One child died, in addition to the hundreds killed by Russian terror earlier.” Zelensky said.

According to the president, now there are two decisive components for defeating the Russian Federation. The first is the Patriot coalition to protect Ukraine from ballistic missiles. The second is a coalition of modern fighters that will prove that terror against our cities has no chance.

“And I thank those who help, those who understand that the speed of the formation of these two coalitions - Patriot and fighters - is literally the acceleration of the world”he stressed.

Recall that Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit in Chisinau said that Ukraine is ready to join NATO, but he expects NATO to be ready to accept Ukraine.

Despite the fact that in the West there are no signs of fatigue from Ukraine and the NATO countries, together with the entire democratic world, continue to support our country, the issue of Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance is very sensitive. The West does not have a common position in it.
