“Unworthy behavior towards a prisoner of war”: the Ombudsman appealed to the UN and the Red Cross because of the video with the execution of a military

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the UN and the Red Cross through a video of the execution of a Ukrainian soldier by Russian occupiers.

Lubinets said that he sent letters to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, the UN Secretary General, the International Committee of the Red Cross through a video in which Russian invaders lose a Ukrainian prisoner of war.

“I demand that the issue of misbehavior of a prisoner of war be considered separately at the platform of the UN Human Rights Committee”the ombudsman said.

Lubinets also appealed to all fellow ombudsmen to continue lobbying issues of support for Ukraine in their countries, and the parliaments recognized Russia as a terrorist country, Russian aggression as a genocide of Ukrainians.

Recall that Ukrainian intelligence believes that the occupiers made the video public for three reasons:
- this is content for an internal audience in order to strengthen anti-Ukrainian narratives in society;

- “baptism of blood”: Russian commanders are likely to give orders to their subordinates to perform such actions and film everything on cameras;

- this is an element of intimidation of their military, first of all, so that they do not surrender to Ukrainian captivity and think that they will do the same with them.

“This is Russia, what it is” — this is how President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the video of the execution of a Ukrainian soldier by the invaders. He is confident that Russia will be responsible for all the grief it has caused Ukrainians.
