On September 27, 2018, Netflix announced that it had ordered a series based on Woods’ Sweet Magnolias book series. The first season, which consisted of ten episodes, was to be produced by the executive producers. Cheryl J. Anderson, Dan Paulsonand Woods herself. Anderson will also serve as showrunner. Production companies involved included Daniel L. Paulson Productions. The series premiered on May 19, 2020. Norman Buckley directed six episodes and was a co-executive producer.
