Director Michael Morris (Better call Saul) in his feature directorial debut, Leslie is an independent drama film that premiered on March 12, 2022 at the South by Southwest Film Festival. It then received a limited release in theaters across America and became available for on-demand streaming on October 22, 2022. Receiving universal critical acclaim, especially for Andrea Riseboroughperformance, it grossed only $23,304 at the box office.
The Riseborough Oscar buzz began with various Hollywood actors sharing their comments about Leslie on social media, in interviews and even during acceptance speeches in recent weeks. It came all of a sudden, and it seems like everyone went out of their way to get Riseborough into the Best Actress race at the Oscars in a very short amount of time, especially considering she’s been passed over at previous awards including the Golden Globes and ” Golden Globe. Critics’ Choice Award. And on Monday, January 23, 2023, Andrea Reiseborogou received a nomination for Best Actress, causing a major controversy at the Academy. Leslie it’s a rollercoaster of emotions, and the trailer captures that perfectly. As Leslie spins and slurs across the dance floors of bars and houses, she begins to wonder who she is and if she’s a good person. The trailer takes us through Leslie’s addiction highs and extreme morning lows that can be hard to watch. Fascinated by country music and cigarettes, we meet many of the musicians who come and go in Leslie’s life, including the good Sweeney (Marc Maron), a figure of her mother Nancy (Allison Janney) along with his partner Dutch (Stephen Root) and her son James (Owen Teague).

Leslie begins seven years after local Texas resident Leslie won the lottery by picking numbers with her son James. Despite her “luck”, Leslie has now become an alcoholic, spending all her money on booze and parties, leaving her homeless and estranged from her son, family, and hometown. Riseborough is a British actress best known for her role as Margaret Thatcher in the TV movie. Since the film opens with Leslie hitting rock bottom as a homeless alcoholic who has spent all the $190,000 she has won on the lottery over the past seven years, it goes beyond her getting sober. When she returns to her hometown, co-owners Sweeney and Royal offer her a job as a maid at a local motel.Andre Royo), the film becomes a story of redemption as Leslie not only tries to get sober, but becomes a man with dreams again and reunites with her teenage son after years of estrangement.

Starring Carol Kane, she plays Giti, a Russian Jewish immigrant who came to New York with her son in the early 1900s. Finally reunited with her husband JakeStephen Keats), who already lives in America, Giti has a hard time adjusting to the big city and the American way of life. Like Leslie in that Hester Street was a film that almost no one saw, Carol Kane’s performance began to be supported by various Hollywood heavyweights, and she ended up nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
