Editor’s Note: Below are spoilers for the Season 2 finale of The Yellow Jackets.The desert is a force to be reckoned with yellow jackets. The Season 2 finale showed us a bit more of what happened in the 1996 timeline as the survivors continued to struggle through their first winter. In search of a leader and some semblance of hope, the need for a functioning “Queen of Horns” arose. Earlier we saw what happens when someone draws a Queen of Hearts card with eyes crossed out. It turned out to be NatalieSophie Thatcher), which was to become a victim of the Desert. Xavi was there insteadLuciano Leroux), whose life was eventually offered. Natalie’s survival was enough for a recovering Lottie (Courtney Eaton) to believe that the powers that be have chosen her as a leader. In the finale, Natalie was honored as the Queen of the Horns, meaning that the rest of the group will turn to her when Season 3 begins.
Natalie is not the type to follow Lottie’s path, so this dramatic shift will either make her a believer or cause her to fall. Is there any reason to believe she won’t be the last title holder, so will her reign go smoothly (probably not) or will she struggle with this new position (more likely)? Adding to the dynamic of Natalie now playing this role is that the ending also revealed her current fate: death. It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that minutes after young Natalie was given her new duty, the episode took its biggest twist by killing the grown-up Natalie (Juliette Lewis) using Misty’s venom-filled needle. yellow jackets calculated in its own way, so it could mean that Natalie’s time as Queen of the Horns won’t be all sunshine and rainbows.
This is brand new territory for Natalie in the second season of Yellow Vests.
Natalie has certainly lived up to the service provider label in the woods. She and TravisKevin Alves) are those who hunt and get food when conditions require it. If it wasn’t for them, who knows if the band would have lasted this long? Natalie is also one of the few who doesn’t fully believe in the supernatural powers that Lottie seems to conjure up. Although some people like Van (Liv Hewson), Marie (Alexa Barajas) and Misty (Samantha Hanratty) took Lottie’s message as gospel, the whole Antler Queen situation is something Natalie probably never foresaw. That’s why this storyline has all the makings of trouble for her.
We know that the survivors still have about a year left in the wilderness, which means another winter. It’s unlikely that Natalie will stay in power until the end, especially with someone like Shauna (Sophie Nelisse) really wants to be in charge. What ultimately happens is obviously yet to be seen, but looking at it, we know that this could be where Natalie’s struggles as an adult begin. We saw Natalie try to kill herself in the first season. We know she struggled with addiction. The loss of Travis in the modern timeline also sets her back, but before that, she had already embarked on a dark path. Perhaps this is the moment when this darkness comes to light.
Shauna won’t make Natalie’s life easier
Lines will be drawn. The season 2 finale revealed that Shauna is upset that she wasn’t chosen to be the Queen of the Horns and wrote in her diary about why she wasn’t chosen and how she feels invisible. Shauna doesn’t take things lightly and she’s not the type to hold back her words or aggression, which means that at some point this riff (even if Natalie doesn’t know it) will come to a head.
Plunging into the corner of the theory, there is reason to believe that a split will occur at some point. This is confirmed by the opening scene of the first season, when a select few fur-clad animals appear to have formed a cannibalistic cult. Five members are shown (one of which we know is Misty), but we also know that more than five have returned home. If there is a split, it is most likely due to the mythology of the Queen of Horns between believers and non-believers, or between Sean’s team and Natalie’s team. Being a leader is even more pressure and Natalie doesn’t seem quite ready at the moment as there is still a glimmer of sanity left in her.
The whole situation with Ben will be checked by Natalie
There’s a lot we don’t know about how Natalie was the queen of the horns, but one thing that will almost certainly be dealt with is the aftermath of the cabin fire. The question remains whether BenStephen Krueger) can have a hand in setting fire to a house. He may feel comfortable knowing he has a place to hide in the winter (and from this group), but it’s unlikely he won’t get caught. When this happens, Natalie will have to make an important decision. It’s going to be hard for her because it’s her bond with Ben. The two always had an understanding with each other that the coach didn’t have with anyone after the accident. There was a world where Javi wished that he, his brother, Natalie and Ben lived safely inside this mysterious tree. It’s not happening right now, but what will happen if and when Ben’s actions are discovered is the group’s vicious reaction.
How will Natalie keep the others from taking revenge on Ben? Most likely, she will not be able to protect him, which means that Ben’s life will be in danger if he is caught. Let’s say a decision needs to be made and Ben meets his demise on Natalie’s orders. It would certainly spoil her psyche in the future. Either way, this whole Ben situation is likely to put Natalie in a stalemate, and it could very well be what ends her reign as Queen of the Horns.
