Things look terrible Mark Duplass And Sterling K. Brown in the new trailer for the upcoming post-apocalyptic drama Biosphere. The Emmy-winning duo play Billy and Ray’s best friends and last people on Earth, who live out their days in Ray’s biosphere when the planet becomes uninhabitable. Their days of playing video games, tending their garden and pond, and generally surviving seem to be numbered when the fish they’ve been raising begins to rapidly die out. Instead of sinking into panic, they find hope in each other in their darkest hour.
The trailer begins with a brief look at all the high-tech devices that support life in the biosphere as Billy (Duplass) reflects on the inexplicable realities of our world. His best friend Ray (Brown) isn’t so sure that something is truly inexplicable, instead turning Billy to earthly things that help them stay sane. While they try to live and survive together as if everything was normal, they get their proverbial canary in a coal mine when one of their remaining fish gets sick. Billy begins to spiral while Ray puts his scientific wits into play, but there seems to be no solution when both the pond and the sphere are tightly closed. Everything is intentionally left ambiguous as Billy starts noticing changes outside of the sphere and Ray scratches his head looking for something. One thing that isn’t ambiguous is the friendship the two share and the hope Ray gives Billy to keep going. With that magical sense of hope, Billy invokes the classic movie mantra by which they must live: “Life finds a way.”
Biosphere marks the veteran producer’s feature-length directorial debut Mel Eslyn who shook the world of film festivals when she presented the project at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. It became a big hit with the critics in attendance, with the dynamic duo of Duplass and Brown a key element. The pair were TV favorites with four Emmy wins for two and an avalanche of nods for Brown’s defining role in This is us.

Eslyn and Duplass often work together in the industry, as she is Mark’s president and Jay DuplassDuplass Brothers Productions banner. It is noteworthy that she was able to demonstrate her writing and directing abilities in three episodes of the brothers anthology series. Room 104 which she produced. More recently, they have been working on Someone, Somewhere which began airing its second season last month. The Duplass brothers also produced Biosphere.
On screen, Mark Duplass is looking forward to season 3 morning show this autumn. He’s locked in for another series of episodes as executive producer Charlie “Chip” Black as the series received an early renewal for a 4th season earlier this month. Meanwhile, Brown will appear in a major project in the near future as he is on board for Netflix’s sci-fi epic. Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez And Sim Liu.
