[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Yellowjackets, Season 2, Episode 6, “Qui.”]
Poor Ben ScottStephen Krueger). Not only did he suffer the most horrific injury in a plane crash (death not included) and was poisoned by Misty (Samantha Hanratty) in the first season, but now he finds himself cast out of the group, starving and losing his mind in the second season.
yellow jackets Season 2, Episode 2, “Edible Complex” marks a major turning point for Ben when he decides not to eat Jackie (Ella Purnell) with the rest of the group. The choice not only causes him extreme alienation and makes him much weaker than the rest of the survivors, but also causes him to spiral mentally. Memories of happier times with her boyfriend Paul, played by François Arnault turn into a fantasy, making him feel what might have been if he had not taken the plane to the football tournament at all.
During the spoiler half of my interview with Krueger and colleagues Warren Cole And Kevin Alves, the subject of Ben’s memories/fantasies came up, so I thought I’d ask Krueger about some of his personal top priorities when replaying those moments. Here’s what he said:
“One of the big things was that I wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to be easy – the best thing to say is that I didn’t want it to be a general gay storyline, you know? I think a lot of times there are gay characters in shows and just to cater for that, they kind of throw in a storyline that just kind of fuels something for the fans and they’re like, “Hey, we’re paying attention to that.” attention”. part of this character. I wanted it to be something that would show where he came from and why he behaves the way he does, and I thought they did an incredible job of filling his psyche and everything they hinted at in the first season, but that we didn’t actually see.”
Krueger went on to offer a pretty significant hint of what’s in store for Ben at the end of the season, and it doesn’t sound good to him. Here’s what Krueger said:
“I know you only watched the sixth episode, but as you go through it, you kind of realize that for him it’s even more like going crazy. It starts like a real memory and all of a sudden some things from the real world seep into him and he can’t control it anymore and he just loses his temper a bit because of the things he’s going through.”
We’ll have to wait until Episodes 7, 8, and 9 air on May 12, 19, and 26, respectively, to see if Ben can pull himself together, but for now, you can take some comfort in the fact that, in fact, Krueger had a wonderful experience. when he shared the screen with Arno. Here’s what he said when I asked the band for an example of a case where a stage partner helped them access something in their own characters that they couldn’t have achieved without them:
“Mine is really light. What I was able to do with François Arnault in many memories. It’s scary when a new actor comes in who is completely out of this world and hopes it’s the right match in terms of chemistry and he’s a brilliant actor and a great person and we kind of clicked. So a lot of those scenes, just looking at his face takes me to a completely different world. It’s been a really great partnership throughout the season.”
