The Portokalos family is back and this time they are heading to Greece! Just in time for the start of wedding season, Focus Features unveiled the first trailer my big greek wedding 3the third installment in the series of family romantic comedies from Nia Vardalos. While the film won’t hit theaters until September, the sun-drenched trailer hints at what we can expect as the loving (and rowdy) family travels to Europe.
Almost the entire original cast returns in the trailer, including Vardalos as Tula. John Corbett like her husband Jan, and Elena Campouris like their daughter Paris. Also for fun - as if they would ever let anyone leave them behind - Louis Mandylor, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin And Jerry Mendicino as Tula’s brother Nick and mother Maria, her Teia Vula and uncle Taki respectively. Conspicuously absent Michael Constantinewho played Tula’s father Gas and died in 2021. While he may not be in the film, his spirit is still felt as the story follows the Portokalos family heading to Greece to grant Gus’ last wish.

Although it ever had a limited theatrical release, the film grossed nearly $369 million worldwide against a $5 million budget. Based on Vardalos’ one-woman show of the same name, the film earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
The first film follows 30-year-old Tula as she tries to build her life outside of the endless cycle of working at her family’s restaurant and ignoring questions about when she’s going to settle down with a cute Greek boy. The film shows how she met and fell in love with the apparently non-Greek Jan, and the problems the couple face when deciding to get married. my big greek wedding 2which takes place 16 years after the first one, shows Tula’s parents discovering that they were never legally married in Greece and decide to have a new - legal - wedding all those years later, and also follows Tula and Jan’s struggle as parents teenage daughter.
My big Greek wedding was filmed in Athens and Corfu in the summer of 2022, with Vardalos serving the triple role of star, screenwriter and now director. As with the first two, the film is produced Tom Hanks And Rita Wilsonand Gary Goetzman, Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer And Stephen Shareshyan.
