Peacock released a new trailer Schafer: The Final Chaptersan upcoming limited series that serves as a sequel Malcolm D. LeeX The best man as well as Feast of the best man. The series will bring together the original cast of the film for the first time in ten years, exploring the new challenges of middle age.
The best man follows the story of Harper Stewart (Ty Diggs), who writes a successful book, seemingly inspired by the lives of people close to him. The content of the book is revealed in the 1999 film when the whole gang is going to the wedding. Unfortunately, Harper’s book nearly ended his friendship with Lance (Morris Chestnut), while undermining the trust of a group of friends in each other. Many of these broken fences were repaired in 2013. Feast of the best man when friends reunited and worked through their differences, but the limited series shows what happened after a decade.
As the new trailer shows, Schafer: The Final Chapters will cheer up again after Harper’s gets an offer to turn his book into a Hollywood movie. For Harper, this is the chance of a lifetime. However, even if the relationship between him and his friends improves, the production of the film may reopen old wounds. It’s a difficult situation that arises when everyone gets back together for another marriage.
The new trailer also shows the two-film cast returning to the series, including Diggs, Chestnut, Melissa De Souza, Ty Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Longas well as Harold Perrineau. D. Lee also returned as director, executive producer and showrunner after directing two films. In short, the series should give fans a proper farewell to the characters they know and love by promoting their stories and exploring how a decade changes everything in our lives.
Why D. Lee develops Schafer: The Final Chapters?
As D. Lee explains, he first wrote and staged The best man due to his desire to see more regular blacks in Hollywood films. As D. Lee says: “When I wrote The Best Man, it was because of the desire to see myself on the screen. As a child, I rarely saw blacks—especially blacks—as my friends and I saw ourselves: educated, successful African Americans who were just “normal.” As the showrunner explains, a lot has changed since the first movie came out, which led to him having to deal with the difficulty of telling a different story with the same black cast. According to D. Lee:
“Given the moment we are in, this is the perfect time to get back to Harper, Lance, March, Quentin, Jordan, Robin, Candace and Shelby and take them on a wild, emotional, fun ride as they deal with their own . journey through parenting, activism, old loves, new loves, and the complexities of being black in 21st century America. Now more than ever, the world is hungry to see what I’ve been working on my entire career: compelling, universal stories about blacks and their humanity. It has always been my mission to make African American stories popular. My life’s work is to tell stories that turn us on and uplift us. And I HOPE that my legacy will be what I envisioned for us.”
