It’s officially autumn, which means the holiday season is fast approaching. One of the best parts of this festive time of year is the excuse to wear ugly sweaters. Specifically a botanical variety. very strange things took over pop culture again last summer with the Hellfire Club. Now the infamous Hawkins High Dungeons & Dragons team has a new Christmas sweater thanks to Merchoid.
The sweater with the hellfire logo in the middle is a clever interpretation of the traditional white and black baseball club shirt seen throughout the horror show’s epic fourth season. It is filled with a variety of Easter eggs, including Hellfire cubes, a Demogorgon’s head, and what appears to be a skull before being struck by lightning. The latter can be a reference to one of two things. This could either be an interpretation of the new demobat creatures with supposed wings coming out of their skulls, or it could be a nod to fan-favorite Eddie Munson. Introduced in Season 4, Eddie was the leader of the Hellfire Club, who made his last heroic fight in the finals, distracting a horde of demonstrators. He did this by playing Metallica’s “Master of Puppets”. If that wasn’t emotionally epic enough, Eddie did it in the middle of a classic inverted lightning storm.
Ugly Christmas sweaters are getting more and more popular with each new holiday season. very strange things because of this, he has had many holiday sweaters in the past. However, given the importance the Hellfire Club has had over the past season, this particular design carries a bit more emotional weight. Eddie may have become one of the show’s most popular characters overnight, and now you can’t go to a convention without seeing at least a dozen people dressed up as this iconic character. Eddie’s journey throughout the season has meant so much to so many people. The sincerity of this actor Joseph Quinn brought into the character only added to it.
season 4 very strange things was simply a masterpiece of the genre. He took everything that had worked for the series in the past, including throwback horror, rich characters, and complex lore, and expanded on that. The last three episodes of the season have been especially commendable, and it has a lot to do with the evolution of Eddie and the Hellfire Club. The show used this harmless D&D club to push the universe forward and also commented on the height of the era of satanic panic in the 80s.
