Paul Weitz assembled an all-star cast of veteran actors for his dark comedy in Toronto. moving on. Although it has two star leaders in Jane Fonda as well as Lily TomlinWeitz called his old favorite from Mozart in the jungle in Malcolm McDowell and another great one Richard Roundtree to add some star power. With literally hundreds of roles behind McDowell and Roundtree, and dozens of films behind Weitz, three film industry veterans dropped by the Collider Supper Suite and Media Studio at Marbl during the Toronto International Film Festival to chat with Collider’s editor-in-chief. Main Steve Weintraub. They shared some war stories from their years on set and detailed how their new comedy story about letting go came about.

moving on reunites Grace and Frankie leads Fonda and Tomlin as a pair of friends reunited by a terrible tragedy. Separated by dark secrets and terrible events, Claire (Fonda) and Evvie (Tomlin) meet at the funeral of their old friend Joyce. What should have been a bittersweet reunion turns bittersweet as Claire threatens to kill Joyce’s husband Howard (McDowell) and Evvie helps her plot his demise. As they discuss how to submerge him six feet underwater, everything that tore apart the group of friends and motivated Claire to kill him resurfaces as they contemplate what happened years ago.

Before starting work on the film, Weitz, McDowell and Roundtree reflected briefly on their careers and how they got to making a film together. McDowell and Roundtree, in particular, told some touching and humorous stories about how their families saw them on screen and on set, and how they realized they had achieved what they could live off of acting. All three noted the special feeling of being at TIFF when Weitz last appeared with AntsMcDowell previously attended with the deceased Robert Altman, and Roundtree never showed up at the festival. They then dive into the core of the film, including how Weitz was involved through Fonda. as well as Tomlin, as well as their experiences on set and how they personally deal with the main theme of the film - getting over when someone hurt them.
