It’s 2022, and horror fans are eating well. Amazon has announced the official release date for its new feature adaptation of the New York Times bestseller. Grady Hendrix2016 novel Exorcism of my best friend. Described as a marriage Bette MidlerX Beaches as well as ExorcistThe film, which Hendrix served as creative consultant for, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in September.
There is no better time for the 80s than 2022. very strange things still trending a month after the season 4 finale, and paper girls Fresh out of the press, iron is hot for Amazon to release their adaptation of Hendrix’s novel Exorcism of my best friend. The novel that Jenna LamiaX (Good girls) script based on two lifelong best friends (“cute but not weird”), Abby Rivers (Elsie Fisher) and Gretchen Lang (Emiya Miller), who grew up during the satanic panic of the late 80s. In the novel, the two have been best friends since the fourth grade, sharing everything and doing everything together except for being possessed by demons. Gretchen does it herself. After a girl’s night goes wrong, one half of the dynamic duo is possessed by the devil, provoking a horror movie turmoil down the hallways of a high school as Mean Girls with lots of hairspray and death.
Hendrix is a best-selling horror author who has written a number of sinister novels. His books are often not shy of the writer’s influence, from this eighties-infused nostalgia to his Southern Book Club’s Guide to Vampire Exterminationthe latter is described as steel magnolias meets Dracula. The unabashed camp makes Hendrix’s stories perfect for fairly original film adaptations. His 2014 novel Horror, about the IKEA-inspired haunted ORSK store is gearing up for a movie adaptation, while both Southern Book Club and its 2021 The latest cheerleading girls each is for television series.
In 2018, the rights to Hendrix’s novel were taken over by Endeavor Content, with a similarly campy horror writer and director. Christopher Landonfamous Happy Death Day 2U, bizarre and a few paranormal activityx, started production. Damon Thomas directed, doing Exorcism of my best friend his first foray into feature films outside of made-for-television films and his serial credits include Penny Dreadful, Dracula as well as Killing Eve.
