According to Rzeczpospolita, the Ministry of State Assets is currently analyzing the possibility that the Orlen Group will take over the part of the Poczta Polska business responsible for the delivery of parcels. The newspaper writes that it is possible to split the company and separate part of the package from it, which will then go to Orlen.
Market competition
According to unofficial information, we are talking about building a company that could compete in the market with such giants as domestic InPost or foreign DHL and DPD. Orlen will take over some of the logistics and packages because the spin-off company will need outside capital to grow its operations.
“Various options are being considered that will contribute to the development of the Orlen Paczka vending machine network,” Orlen answered the questions of Rzeczpospolita. “At this stage, we do not comment on negotiations on possible cooperation,” the press service of the company noted. The Ministry of Activism did not react in any way.
Parcels from Orlen
In October 2021, Orlen entered the courier market by installing parcel dispensers at its stations.
- We see huge opportunities associated with the development of e-commerce and changing shopping habits, so we are investing in the development of services for sending and collecting parcels. This is an important business project that fits into the development of the retail segment included in the ORLEN2030 strategy. We offer customers access to more than 6,000 parcel sending and receiving points, including parcel machines, the number of which will gradually increase. This will strengthen our position in the e-commerce market, one of the key markets for the Polish economy, whose value in Poland already exceeds PLN 100 billion. - said the general director of Obaitek.
