Is the US recruiting 4chan internet trolls into the military?
Vx-underground, a prominent cybersecurity Twitter user, recently shared a surprising fact. The US military is using 4chan propaganda to recruit internet nerds.
The post is accompanied by a screenshot from the infamous 4chan Internet forum. It shows a meme with Pipo the frog, similar to Pepe, recognizable, including in the Twitch.tv community. The message describes a short story of a lonely man with no prospects who started his career in the army and went straight. The author also tempts volunteers with an additional bonus for signing up and even inserts a link to the army recruitment site.
Internet commentators are strongly divided in their assessments of the initiative. Some of them mention the stories of American recruiters, in shops with board games or card games and see no problem in transferring this strategy to the Internet. For others, however, 4chan is a poor place to hire, as the site is known to be a hotbed of far-right people.
Military Influencers on TikTok and Instagram - Should They Recruit Too?
For some time now, the media has also been paying attention to the flood of military-focused influencers. This includes Hayley Luzhan, known online as Hailujan or psychologist girl. Videos of a woman posing and making memes in uniform are racking up millions of views on her TikTok (731,000 followers) and Instagram (766,000).
Khailujan actually works in the US Army, or rather in the structures responsible for psychological warfare. So there were accusations that her presence on the Internet was a hidden advertisement to encourage potential recruits. However, there is no solid evidence for this.
